So, according to what I've seen on the news ... they figure our Thanksgiving dinners are costing us 10-14% more this year ... I call BEANS!!! Last year I was able to find a bird - we're talking JUST the turkey here - it cost me less than 50 cents a pound (my daughter works at the store, so her discount is what put it under 50 cents), this year a bird would have cost me over twice as much (the cheapest I've found is $1,18/lb at Cub Foods ....
Sen. Warren, yeah the DNA one, says the Justice Department should look into the turkey suppliers because they must be lining their pockets ... um ... NOOOOOO
She apparently has been hiding under some rock some place ... or she's been drinking too many of those beers ... because all she would have to do is ask ANY farmer what the largest cost on the farm is and they will tell you ... FEED
Feed has risen 300 - 400% this year ... that raised the price per pound on any animal that you're gonna slaughter. Then theres the cost to get the meat processed - that's killing, plucking, cleaning, wrapping, etc. up to the supplier who will sell it to the stores.
Every step of the way, WAGES have increased ... that also adds to the price -- guess she didn't think that one through when she was preaching for $15 minimum wage .... all this adds up, and adds up FAST.
The average American will not be buying their bird from the farmer direct, most will be buying ... well, have bought since today is Thanksgiving ... from the frozen food section of the local supermarket. While yes these birds are frozen - the turn over rate is high enough to where chances are very good that they are less than a month frozen.
