Frey's Love Salad
4lb (2 large containers) strawberry yogurt
16 oz. non-dairy whipped topping
8 serving sized box of INSTANT vanilla pudding
1-2 qt. fresh strawberries
~or~ 2 tubs of frozen strawberries, thawed
In a large bowl mix together yogurt and dry pudding mix thoroughly until mix is dissolved. Fold in the whipped cream being careful not to deflate it and mix until completely worked in. Slice and de-stem strawberries and add working in so they get thoroughly distributed, but again be careful not to deflate the mixture.
Put in refridgerator for at least 1 hr.
Serves 6
Variations:
replace vanilla pudding with french vanilla pudding mix (will take on an orangy tone), cheesecake flavored pudding mix,
Substitute strawberry yogurt with blueberry yogurt and
substitute blueberries for the strawberries (leave them whole)
substitute lemon yogurt & drained mandarine orange
slices & crushed pineapple for the strawberries and strawberry
yogurt.
This is really good and has become a regular favorite at our family gatherings. It seems to fit in everywhere.
We have tried chocolate pudding and chocolate flavored non-dairy whipped cream, but we didn't like the chalkiness feel in the mouth. Perhaps if we had used pre-made pudding instead of the instant....we will have to think about it. Someday they will come out with the large containers of the the chocolate yogurts and then we will give it a try again. I'm thinking freshly sliced bananas in each bowl first then topped with the chocolate concoction.
Okay some may be wondering why its "Frey's" salad instead of just Strawberry Yogurt salad....1 because we changed the name when we adapted the recipe and 2 because Frey is one of the main Norse fertility gods, and strawberries are considered an aphrodisiac.
Cool huh?
