but the IRS has been HACKED .... by a CONTRACTOR, which I believe they had hired to do something for them ...
15 on America's Top Earners not only had their records hacked into but those records then PUBLISHED in the Propublican (2022 April 15) for all the world to see ...
President Trump
Elon Musk
Ken Griffith
plus thousands more, everyday tax payers
Ken Griffith has sued the IRS - who said this wasn't their fault, it wasn't them - because THOUSANDS of people's tax records had been gone through ....
Maybe mine,
Maybe yours!
Charles Littlejohn, a Federal Contractor (that might be a fancy term for "employee" too) pled GUILTY for:
One count of UNAUTHORIZED DISCLOSURE OF TAX RETURNS and RETURN INFORMATION
He admitted to leaking Mr, Trump's information to the New York Times and those of other people to ProPublican.
I wonder why Mr. Trump's taxes got told to NYT but not the other peoples tax info ... hmmm
From the Deposition:
Q: So you could, theoretically, access anyone's tax returns in that job?
A: Yes
Q: Were you able to access anyone's tax return?
A: I was able to access tax returns at will. Yes.
Q: And unlike before, you actually did target certain people?
A: That's correct.re
Um .... that's disconcerting, to say the least.
The IRS today published this apology:
"The IRS sincerly apologizes to Mr. Griffith and the thousands of other Americans whose personal information was leaked to the press ... The IRS takes its responsibilities seriously and acknowledges that it failed to prevent Mr. Littlejohn's criminal conduct and unlawful disclosure of Mr. Griffith's confidential data. Accordingly, the IRS assures Mr. Griffith and the other victims of Mr. Littlejohn's actions that it has made substantial investments in safeguarding of taxpayer information"
The IRS had known for YEARS that these problems existed and until Littlejohn "outed" the issue so publically, NOW they acknowledge it??
Do you think this is really going to "fix" things?
I don't.
