One Shawl To Rule Them All - UPDATE

Knit Along Up Date Time!!!

Ok - I am in a knitalong on Ravelry.com ... we are working on two main shawls right now, one crocheted, one knitted -- I started with the knitted so my daughter would have a wrap for prom night.

The pattern is called Haruni (grandmother in elvish) and is a Ravalry exclusive -- I think ... I'm pretty sure.

Chart A, Rows 1 - 39 plus beginning tab

I am using size 8 needles and a sparkly eyelash type of yarn, so the pattern is not showing up well here, but it is making a lovely pinecony-type pattern which shows up well in person.

I have reached the point of placing my first "life line" to not only keep horrid runs from happening if I drop a stitch (knock on wood) ... but to also mark my repeats. The blue marker shows where the first working of row 17/18 is ... the repeats of chart A are row 17-40 complete.

once the shawl is as wide as I think it should be then I will move onto Chart B which is super lacy.

I'm not sure how this yarn (100% nylon) will take to blocking but I will have to give it a try. I'm thinking it might take just a bit of either steam or warm air to set it while its blocked.

Time to create

Okay -- I have got to take a break from my tatting to make a quick gift for my brother's live-in girlfriend ... rather ironic, my other brother's live-in girlfriend I have always referred to as Aunt ### but this one I just can not bring myself to call her Aunt### to my kids, she is just "###" .... don't know what that's all about .... I like her, but it just doesn't 'feel right' to refer to her as a member of the family.

Anyways .... so we are celebrating March birthdays Sunday as long as everyone is together and BAM my dad tells me that she has a birthday this month as well and if they show up it would be nice if I had something for her. Great. No time for shopping -- plus I'm not sure of her tastes.

So its time to dig into the stash and make something in 2 days. So its Shawl-Time!!

I can whip one of those out. I have the perfect ladder/ribbon yarn to do it in .... I've been dieing to try it out. But I lost the pattern I had in mind for it .... and I can't find the other pattern I thought would look great.

So now what?

Why, do what I do best --- design my own!!! So look for a new pattern and progress photos to come.

You will need some balls of Dazzle ladder yarn
P hook
and quick fingers.

New post to come with the actual pattern

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part1

Okay, so I was very naughty last week....but then when isn't a Slytherin naughty, right?....and ordered some more yarn (like I really needed more....but hey I got inspired).

Here are photos of what I got and what my plans are for each of them:

This is my Bernat Galaxy Yarn....this yarn has been discontinued so I've been having quite the time finding it at a decent price--I just refuse to pay $6 a skein for yarn! I thought it would be great to crochet an afghan that utilizes all the colors in the order of the solar system. So I bought (left to right) Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, and Neptune from Mary Maxim's @ $0.97 a skein (I pay full price for very little, let me tell you!). I have located several more colors at http://www.joann.com/ and http://www.herrschners.com/ (they have one called Deep Space, that I would love to use for the background color...I figure 10 skeins would cover me, but they still want about $4.50 a skein...I can wait them out)
