In Their Own Words

According to Harry Reid (D-NV) when men don't have jobs they become abusive ... yeah .... you heard it ... here's the quote:
" ... I have met with some people in front of his home, dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand, why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either, but women arent abusive - most of the time. Men - when they are out of work - have been, tend to become abusive."

Okay then... first, yeah I know the first sentence doesn't make sense - its was a clip and I think if I could have had the part before it, it would have been a little clearer.

I guess this means that we need to give the new jobs to MEN first then .... (brings back images of after WW2 when women began to loose their jobs to men coming back from service -- yes women got fired from jobs just cause the guys came back)

and apparently women aren't abusive .... I think we could find several social workers who will take issue with that theory.

This is kind of like saying that because a man didn't get any sex from his wife he is more likely to rape a woman -- it doesn't sound the same, it sounds far fetched but give me a second.

Both are about POWER not circumstances ... if you don't think abuse goes on in homes that have two working parents ... where they have good income ...

then you are stupid!

Jobs are NOT the reason for abusive people - Mr. Reid - there was not an epidemic of abuse during the Depression ... if anything, had there been statistics at the time, you probably would have found a drop in abuse ... and not just because fathers went off to find work, but because when times get tight, families tend to grow closer -- really.

Expect a "clarifying" statement later today from either the Senate or the White House to undo what this idiot just said.

Well - DUH!

World leaders tone down menu over fears of hypocrisy - Times Online:
"Lobster, goose and foie gras have given way to pasta, mozzarella, spinach and sweetcorn. 'It does not look good if leaders discussing global starvation are seen to be dining lavishly,' an official of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said. 'At the last summit in 2002 we did not give enough thought to the menu and were open - unfairly, in our view - to the charge of hypocrisy.'"
Gee, I don't know what anyone would have been upset with that original menu --- oh yeah --- the UN are idiots.

how about this for an idea?

how about you guys do a little research and find out what it is the poor eat in each of your cities ... or even what it is that each country feeds their poor .... and eat that for one night?? Or for however long the summit is?

Oh -- because that would offend your pallets -- oh -- I'm sorry.

" ... The 2002 menu, published by The Times, began with foie gras on toast with kiwi fruit and lobster in vinaigrette, followed by fillet of goose with olives and seasonal vegetables and ending with a compote of fruit with vanilla, all accompanied by an array of fine wines ... "
Oh please ... that sounds like the typical NY dinner ... hell, NY has a $100 burger ... the UN is located in NY right?

So how did they change the menu exactly?

" ... This time the catering was scaled down. Leaders first ate vol au vent* stuffed with sweetcorn and mozzarella, followed by a pasta dish with a sauce of pumpkin and shrimps, and then veal meatballs and cherry tomatoes, with a fruit salad and vanilla ice-cream for dessert. The wine was a "straightforward but very acceptable Orvieto Classico" ...

.... Tomorrow the lunch menu features cheese mousse, pasta, green beans and pineapple with ice-cream, all washed down with a Nero d'Avola Cabernet from Sicily. On Thursday, the last day of the summit, delegates will be offered courgette tart, parmesan risotto, ragout of veal with sautee potatoes, and lemon mousse for dessert with a strawberry sauce, with Pino Grigio from Trentino as the wine ..."

Okay - that's better -- NOT. Although on the bright side the mozzerella cheese, according to the story, is made from buffalo milk instead of cow milk. So I'm wondering if they can make it with other types of milk too -- like goat .... llama ... camel ... oxen ... etc.

Now lets not forget where they are eating these meals as well .... it certainly is not going to be in some back alley someplace. It will be in some swanky restraunt.

So how much $$ does this cost? And how many people could that money feed??? That is the REAL question .... Feed My Starving Children makes/sends meals which cost $0.17 a meal

NOTE:
* from Wikipedia: A Vol-au-vent (French for "windblown" to describe its lightness) is a small hollow case of puff pastry. A round opening is cut in the top and the pastry cut out for the opening is replaced as a lid after the case is filled. Vol-au-vents can accommodate various fillings, such as mushrooms, prawns, fruit, or cheese, but they are almost always savory.

Slap in veterans faces

Okay so Forest Lake High School was going to have a group of veterans speak to kids at their school --- not to recruit, not to praise the war, not to sway the kids one way or the other -- simply to speak about thier experiences.

So what happens? Parents call saying that it is too political .... why? Because people from OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT threatened to protest the gathering if it took place.

Excuse me?????

So you will deny these kids LEARNING from PRIMARY SOURCES about history because you let outside forces sway you??? How horrible is that??

They protest .... you simply call the cops to have them removed from the school property.

Yes it is too political .... but not from the veterans side --- from the outsider protestors side!!!

These are professional protestors. They have found that there are groups of people who truck in people from places such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Olympia, Salem, etc (yes mosty west coast cities are what I've heard) and just give them a sign.

It has become so wild that cities try to contain them into a certain area or 'parade route' so it doesn't snarl up everyday traffic for those who do NOT want to participate. But for some reason these people who are willing to hide behind the constitution for their rights don't see how their protests interfer with the rights of others.

now they are interrupting STUDENT RIGHTS. If kids in the school had said ... listen you have to allow us to opt out of this if we don't want to go, I could see it ... but there is no way they would have totally cancelled the event.

This is so so sad .... as much as we want our kids to grow up to make their own decisions in life--be independant thinkers, reasoned individuals, responsible adults --- we sure aren't letting them have all the information they need to make informed desicions.

I'm in trouble

Feather shortage leaves pillow makers flat - Yahoo! News

Okay a few years back we discovered something very disturbing at the cabin.

Hubby's nephew (I refuse to claim the twit) decided to play a joke on me and hid all the feather pillows--no one wanted them so they wound up on my bed-yep hubby & I have seperate beds at the cabin, awww covers of my own--so when we got up on a Friday after the boob had left Thursday night we couldn't find them anywhere in the cabin.

We searched every room, every cupboard....we could not find where he had put them-of course we didn't realize it was him at the time, we thought someone had taken them home. You also need to understand that there are just enough pillows at the cabin for every bed to have one, and only one--except the feather pillows which no one else used, so I had two.

Well we found that I can no longer sleep without a feather pillow.

I was up all night Friday tossing and turning. At first we thought it was because I only had a single pillow so we figured out a way of getting me a second pillow, but that wasn't it.

Its the feather pillow! There is just something about them. Maybe its the way they conform to the head & neck, maybe its the way they warm up while you lay on them in the winter and stay cooler in the summer, maybe its the way they seem to wick away sweat & drool instead of keeping it next to your skin....I don't know what it is, but they are hands-down better than synthetic pillows.

We had to run to the nearest Walmart that Saturday and find a feather pillow---wouldn't you know it, they didn't have any...all they had were the poly-down, the fake-feather pillows...so we picked up a couple of those. They didn't work.

Maybe it was all in my head....but they were just as uncomfortable as the foam pillows--so another sleepless night.

We got home Sunday and as soon as my head hit my feather pillows I was OUT! I could not believe how fast I zonked.

and that says a lot....I have troubles getting to sleep....usually because the single solid pillow that I have on my side of the bed for use when I want to stay awake, is still under my head--remove that pillow and its
