See What You Want To...

New revealing Starbucks logo has group screaming 'Slutbucks!':
"A Christian group out of San Diego has found grounds for outrage over the new logo for Starbucks Coffee.
The Resistance says the new image 'has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute,' Mark Dice, founder of the group, said in a news release. 'Need I say more?"
Actually Yes you do.
Such as ... since when do LEGS have scales and tail fins?
ITS A MERMAID YOU MISOGYNIST XENOPHOBIC MORON!

now those who have read a few of my posts know - I think name calling is a sign of losing a debate...I'm not debating here.

I have to ask if he would also put clothes on David ... cover up the Sistine chapel ... or rewrite the Bible to take out all the sex and fornication in there?
Probably not.

Also -- the logo is actually 35 years old ... it just hadn't been used in a while.

I sure hope Starbuck's doesn't give them the time of day ... at least no more than they would any other group who would speak up. They certainly wouldn't stop using it if a bunch of Poseidon worshipping pagans wrote them about how demeaning it is ... so why should this group get higher priority?
Personally, as a woman ... I have to tell you .... I kind of like the more rotunda look to the logo. I think it is a lot less offensive than the one that has been getting used which depicts her more of a young prepubescent girl who's chest is being emphasized by her wavy hair.
Oh ... and I think Mr. Dice owes every woman in the world an apology for thinking that just because they aren't wrapped from head to toe or because their legs aren't glued shut, that they are prostitutes.
I won't hold my breath.

Product Review: Coffee-Mate Chocolate Raspberry

OMGs!! If you know high-end chocolates you know that the raspberry filled one's are fantastic...this stuff tastes just like it.

I love this stuff. One tablespoon per cup...keep the sugar low (its sweet enough).

It is like drinking a cup full of lucious chocolate---YUM.

Highly recommended. Prices vary from place to place, but I paid about $4/32 oz. or about 85 servings (serving size 1 Tablespoon).

I found that the 'normal' cup size on these things is 6oz.....but most mugs are 10-12 oz so ou will have to double it.

good day....bad day

Good day: Hubby took me shopping at the grocery store. I know for a lot of people this seems rather mundane, everyday dread....but we don't go to the regular store very often so it is a real treat--especially if he lets me buy stuff I want.

They had Yoplait yogurt (all styles) on sale for 20/$10 (can't beat 20cents a container, no limit)...so we did a really good job at cleaning them out. My daughter stopped counting at 40 when she was putting them into the 'over flow' refridgerator.

He also let me get some Coffee Mate creme....Raspberry (I have got to do a review on this too)
and some International Instant coffee (orange something--I'll review that too)...and some barley for soup....and some canned soup they had on sale (trying to get the kids to eat more soup in their lunches)...and some rutabagas, turnip, & parsnips (they are hard to find at this store)...and they had Hamburger Helper/Chicken Helper on sale for 10/$10!

I love this stuff--it is a great launch point for meals. The box says it feeds 4 but I need to make enough to feed at least 8 (I have two teenagers and a preteen, plus there's hubby)....so I figure out what's in it and stretch it out.
Take the "Lasanga" that's going to be easy....an extra can of tomatoe sauce and a few wide egg noodles...viola supper for 8.
Or the "Chicken Fried Rice"....extra rice, as much chicken as I need, maybe an extra cup of peas...whammo-dinner for the family!
Then as I eat them I pick them apart....trying to figure out what they used for flavoring (being careful not to get anything with fish)....then when I'm out of the boxes I can figure out how to make it myself...and save the money.

Lets see we got chips & ginger-ale for flu season (best to have on hand ahead of time) and little samplers of coffee.
They are the cutest things...they were 10/$10 and are going to be perfect for a gift for my SIL. We figured we could get a couple of coffee cups from Dollar Tree, stuff them with a few of the samplers, put them in a nice basket and give it to her that way. I think it will make a nice gift...maybe I'll even include some Romance novels (I think she likes that smut....I know she wouldn't be into Bronte or Austin).

We ever worked outside with the dog on some basic obedience--she really needed it....we have let it slide the last month or so. She did really well.

Straightened out my cupboards so it would actually hold it all (couldn't believe all the stuff I had to find a spot for).

Bad Day:
While making the bed, the corner of my pillow knocked off a statuette I had in my window and it broke.
I was a beautiful statuette of two cherubs sitting on a bench; one had a basket and the other held a little birdie in its hands.
I kept it in the house because I was afraid that it would get broken outside (ha!) and I've been able to keep it fairly safe for the last 5 yrs. It has taken a couple of spills but nothing really happened to it.
This time...a feather pillow smash the sucker to smithereens!
Okay, technically it wasn't the pillow...it was the floor/wall as it fell. I totally lost one of the cherubs....she lost her head and her wings---insert joke here---there was not saving it. No just gluing it together.
It was a resin statuette and once they break they are ruined.
It was so hard to throw it out....it felt kind of like throwing out an heirloom even though it wasn't that old...but it had to go. [sigh] Somedays I miss my mom.
Hubby tried to make me feel better by telling me to look at Design Toscano for something simular (love them) but he doesn't know I just spent way too much at Herrschner's again....and I swore I wouldn't...swore it....looked at their pages and said 'nice but I can live w/o it' then placed too big of an order the next day figuring that most of it would be out of stock because the prices were so good.

I just got the shipping notice yesterday (the day after placing the order-very unusual for them) and I did get EVERYTHING I ordered. {sigh} not that I'm not happy....I just don't know how I'm going to hide it all from hubby.

I'll have to post some of the stuff I got later.

But good day/bad day.....lets hope the good day just keeps going.

Tea and Sympathy

Well--I just got back from Coffee Clutch time with the other mothers from Cub Scouts--at least the ones I know & like--but I, of course, had some Earl Grey tea. Not too bad, less than $2 for a double cup of tea...took the oldest daughter along since she was meeting a friend to go over a presentation they are doing next week and she wanted a coffee....some fancy dansy thing that cost $4!
I told her I could remember when coffee was 25 cents a cup, and even then I thought it was too expensive--she's killing me here.

Well I packed up my iPod, my compendium of Jane Austen novels, a ball of Svale yarn and my dpns...just in case.

Well got caught up on all the latest gossip....learned my kids really aren't that unusual as far as kids go, and that most of the issues they have would be solved if teachers just took a more active role in letting parents know what's going on instead of expecting the kids to do it.

One mother had an issue with her kid thinking that he was failing a class when he in fact was doing really really well with it...just that the way the teacher had worded things and looked at the kids he thought he was one of the two failing kids in class. Now why the hell would let the entire class in on someone's grade? I don't care if he didn't mention a name, I don't care if he didn't feel he pointed anyone out---you don't do that! If you are having troubles with one of the kids getting their homework done then he should have a conference with that kid & his/her parents--not air it out in front of the whole class.

Another mother was telling how her kid has to take 'bullying classes' (kind of like 'anger management') because some kid accused her son of calling him a 'he-she'....which he claims he didn't do....but he was under the impression that unless he confessed that he would be suspended for 6weeks! now that's wrong! The teacher didn't hear it happen...and he is going on one child's word over another....and the accused is swearing up & down that he didn't do it...and there is no proof it happened....so why would they automatically lean on this kid? My guess is that there is more going on in this situation than the mother knows of---but the only way she is going to find out is to talk to the teacher and the vice-principal about it.

This is really too bad...he's a sweet kid. I just can't see him doing anything like this...at least not on purpose...I don't even think he would know what it means. his mom did say one of the other kids in the class apologized to him after he got in trouble ~=~ so it must have happened in front of the whole class instead of keeping it private ~=~ so mom is thinking that perhaps the apologizer is the one who really said it.

I just hope this doesn't show up on his permanent record--I have known this boy for 3 1/2 yrs and I just can't see him doing it. Yes he will stand up for himself if he feels wrong/slighted, but I can't see him doing the bullying. I know he did have problems with a bully at the old school but that kid hasn't bothered him yet this year (that anyone knows of).

Well we chatted for a couple of hours. Daughter met one of her friends to work on their project and when the other mother's wanted to go she wanted to stay...good thing I packed up extra stuff.

Well the girls finished what they had to do, but her friend's mother wasn't going to get her until 4pm...so we decided to stay a bit longer since daughter was 'helping' her with her homework and I got to know the girl a little. A bit flaky, but then I suppose I was at her age too. Finally at 4pm I asked if her mom was coming to get her at 4 when she said, no she called and wouldn't be coming until after 5pm. Well we couldn't wait that long--besides I couldn't do any reading with those two chattering--but she was nice enough to let me use her cell phone to call hubby to get us. Actually it took two calls...one home to find out that hubby had gone into work...she was really nice about it.

So we left her there but she said she would be alright--I hope she is.

Well all is done for now---got two pages read (I just can't read in that kind of enviroment anymore) and absolutely no knitting (daughter discouraged it)---now I just have to wait for the cry of 'but we have to get together to put the project together' from her.

well....I wanted to do a review of the tea I had.

Product Review--Coffee Mate:Pumpkin Spice

Okay I'm late on this....how late? well the container of Coffee Mate is gone.

How do you like your coffee? I like mine blonde, hot, and sweet--no wait that's men....no, that's my coffee---and when it comes to creamers I have found that the Member's Mark brand that I get from Sam's Club beats the Coffee Mate powder without a doubt...so when Sam's club offered the liquid Coffee Mate in a duo pack I was a tad skeptical.

The creamer comes in a duo pack-one of French Vanilla, one of Pumpkin Spice.

Well I had the French Vanilla powder before so I had some idea what too expect--too much vanilla and way too much hidden sweetener**note later** So I decided to start with the Pumpkin Spice.

I began with a standard coffee cup (not the 18oz cup I usually use) just in case I didn't like it. I used one sugar cube for sweetness and 1 Tbsp (using a measureing spoon) of creamer per cup.

It was surprisingly delicious. You would think the combination of pumpkin spice, cinnamon, cream & coffee would be horrid but it was quite pleassnt.

It reminded me of the International Instant Coffees my mother used to buy me in high school. Or like a Snickerdoodle cookie in a cup.

Being that I don't drink a lot of flavored coffees I decided to consult my local coffee-house expert....oh okay, I had my teenaged daughter try it too.....she loves going to Caribou and dislikes the brews at Starbuck's--in fact she calls them over priced, froo-froo drinks there.

She loved it! She liked the creamy texture and the way it exploded up from the bottom of the cup--she likes to add the creamer after the coffee is poured, I like to have it in there before hand--she even switched over to one of the clear glass cups to observe the explosion when it hit the bottom.

Hey, coffee & science in one great moment--I can live with that.

She did say that she could feel almost a powderiness to the cinnamon, but I couldn't feel it at all. I did note what seemed like a very slight coconut undertone to the creamer.

all in all I would give it an 8 out of 10 for taste, and a 3 out of 10 for price (I will need to find the reciept but it wasn't cheap)

Now that note** I have found the flavored Coffee Mates are over flavored so what I do is get the giant container of generic (in this case Member's Mark) non-dairy creamer powder and mix to it one of the regular containers of the flavored powdered Coffee-Mates. Put it back in the container (remember you now have more than you did before so you will need a container that is bigger than both the generic & namebrand combined)...now put it in your cupboard for a couple of hours, maybe even overnight and you will find that ALL the powder is now flavored the way you like it. Viola! You now have 3-5 times the amount of flavored mix at only the fraction of the cost.

Also--like those mocha drinks? buy cocoa powder w/o the marshmellows...now mix it with an equal amount of non-dairy powder and use your coffee instead of water to make it....ummmm, frothy!
