YEAH

It was tough to come up with a name for this post ... because I hate to feel good about someone else's misfortune ... but I can't help it.

About 2 yrs ago (april 2008) I bought 12 skeins of yarn (Berroco Crystal FX) for $1.47 USD each ... I thought it was a great deal at the time, it even came with a plastic storage case ... was a tad disappointed when the case came gummy from the stuff they used to hold down the flap of the case ... but the yarn was still good and it will make a gorgeous to-die-for shawl for my daughters to BORROW (hey for the work that's going into it, its staying mine).

Well I was checking for projects on Ravelry and came across someone else's stash ... and found they paid $7/skein!!!! Either that or they are trying to sell a single skein for that much -- ummmm ..... no thank you.

I know that this has more to do with the yarn being discontinued .... even with the price including s&h that would still come out to be about $5/skein - yarn is light, you can put it in an envelope and get the lowest shipping rate (I think its like $2). Sheesh!

but its a free country and people can pay for yarn what they are willing to pay for it .... but me? If it isn't under $3 these days, its going to have a tough time making it into my stash.

STASH TIME

okay I broke down and ordered from Herrschner's again ... bad girl ... and got the last thing I really needed -- YARN!! oh and a bunch of scrapbook stuff ...

You know its funny - hubby doesn't seem to get upset about the scrapbook stuff quite as much as the yarn .. but I use the yarn more.

Well -- off to my Ravelry page to update my stash counter ... my counter on the site has kind of gotten out of date ... I will have to update it later, but its not as quite as Ravelry.

Updated: Stash List

Hey gang - and I know you are out there - my stash has been updated, at least the iron-on patterns stuff. While looking for missing scrap booking stuff (don't ask me what happened to it - its not where its supposed to be - one of the girls must have been looking at the sparklies) and found a few packets of iron-ons that I forgot I had.

Amazing what you can find when you are looking for something else.

My mother always used to tell me that if you really want to find something - look for something else. It is ssooooo true.

Now if only I could get it to work with my missing iPod from Easter. This house swallows things I swear.
((((0)))) ((((0)))) ((((0)))) ((((0)))) ((((0)))) ((((0)))) ((((0))))
Okay other semi-related matters.

I currently am waiting for a reply from Herrschner's customer service on two matters.

The first concerns the reimbursement for shipping on an item I had to send back to them because the sent it to me busted. I ordered a "Phrase Maker" for scrapbooking - and other things. It is a kind of cool thing ... I haven't gotten into it too much yet, but I suspect it is going to really help with getting the kids names on their homework (I'm serious) ... let's see what is the best way to describe it....

Its like those old store labellers for marking prices on items(maybe not so old depending on where you live and if your store has a scanner or not) ... but instead of numbers (at least on mine) it has letters & spaces - up to 8 per label, I could use a few more places but that's okay.

It comes with plain labels but I also picked up the variety pack with different backgrounds - but the centers of them are lightened up considerably to allow the printing to show up.

Well upon opening I found the ink was EVERYWHERE ... all over the devise, all over my hands, and all over the bedspread where I opened the package when the ink-roller fell out of the box. I'm thinking what happened was someone returned the item (I got it from their weekly sale) and didn't tell them it was busted so they recycled it back thru the system...although it didn't look like it had been used before.

I called them right away and found the way to send it back (it would have been easier if they would give a regular invoice with mailback labels, but they just send a paper printout) ... the rep said that if I requested it, they would reimburse me for return shipping (makes sense since it wasn't my fault the item was busted) ... but I haven't heard spit about it ... yet, still waiting.

The second thing I'm waiting on is the refund of shipping from a recent order I placed but only half the stuff came, and according to the shipping chart it should have dropped the shipping a couple of bucks -- okay not a lot, but you know I shop on sale so $2 goes a long way ... plus lets face it .... I'm more than a tad ticked off from the order before.

It kind of ticked me off too that on the website it said - yes we have this stuff - and then the order came and it said 'backordered until july' - and then I started getting letters saying they couldn't get suppliers to get the stuff .... Xyron? They couldn't find a supplier for Xyron??? What the heck? Xyron is a major scrapbooking supplier - they make the greatest sticky stuff around ... and the unit (1 1/2" sticker maker) hasn't been discontinued that I know of, so the refill rolls shouldn't be that tough to get.

I'm thinking more that they couldn't find a supplier that would sell it to them for the same price as before, so that they wouldn't get the same profit off the item. I'm sorry --- that's not 'can't find a supplier' that's what we call 'the cost of doing business'.

You can bet that if it ever goes on sale again before july or shortly afterwards - they will be getting a very terse letter from me.

And yes I've seen that before too where they say they were out of stock, but a couple of weeks later the same item on sale again. I don't know if they switched management or if they got bought out or what, but over the last couple of years I've really noticed a difference in their customer service stuff...and not for the better.

We will see how things go. I just couldn't believe that 11 items on this order were 'out of stock' when the website said they were in stock. Normally one to three items being out of stock is no huge deal - but 11? what are the chances of that? That's horrid. That is someone not knowing what their inventory is - or else someone in the warehouse made a tragic mistake.
But it certainly explained why it took so long for them to ship it to me. This new order is also taking long .... I'm thinking I'm about to get hit again.

Crash and Burn

Well ... there's no question about it. I've fallen off the wagon this time.

Herrschner's had that Regia 4 ply on sale for less than $3/skein and I fought it as long as I could. I got three each of two different colors.

Actually things would have been fine .... I would have passed it all by .... until I found the Bernat Bling Bling for less than $1/skein in pretty Moulin Rouge for my oldest daughter (5 balls is enough for her to make a super simple poncho for herself) .... and they updated the Scrapbooking sale page.

Oh my downfall are the tins that look like old-fashioned lunchboxes ... I have so many uses for them. Well there's lunch tins, of course. but there are also: sorting of it-bits that won't fit nice in my scrapbook boxes w/o risk of bending; holding stampers; hiding the seeds from the mice; present giving (such a unique box); recipe boxes (the new ones are a little too big for 3X5s and a bit small for 6X4's though); candy holders; easter baskets; cookie jars; etc. etc. etc.

I don't think they will be ant proof though. But I've gotten totally addicted to them.

I don't know where Herrschner's came up with them .... I haven't seen them on just the regular site .... they just seem to show up on the sales page out of the blue.

Well got to go. Got a pattern to perfect (and it is looking really nice if I do say so myself) and a house to clean for Sunday.

Why do I have to wait til the last minute all the time???

On or Off the Wagon?

Okay, today I'm feeling like I'm at my Senior Hayride again in high school. You know the one where they try to push you off so you have to run to catch up to the wagon? Well when they tried to do it to me, I didn't competely fall off so there was controversy amongst my friends whether it really counted or not.

Some said that technically since I held onto the wagon and never lost my balance was able to hop back on with out missing a step... it didn't count. Some said that since my butt left the platform, even for a little bit, it counted as being pushed off.

Well that's where I am today .... only its the Yarn Diet wagon I may or may not have fallen off of.

Herrschners had this super sale on hanks of their tapestry yarn. They came in an asst. of 5 hanks (about 43 yds each hank) ... so I ordered 10 sets. Even though its made for needlepoint, I figured it would be great for socks, especially those which have images or stripes. I thought it would work out great.

But now that they are here I'm wondering if I fell off the wagon or not.

Is it considered cheating on my diet by using a product meant for another craft?? I mean...it is yarn...but its technically for needlepoint not knitting or crocheting.

Its 100% virgin wool ... but there are no washing instructions - which makes sense, its not made to be used in garments .... it is moth-proof and color fast so I think it will be fine.
Some are twisted hanks and some are more like a skein of floss.
They are thicker than I thought ... or worsted than sport ... actually more of a DK weight, so they would make a rather thick sock.

Definately going to have to gauge it up before starting.

So here I sit amongst my colors (18 different colors) and not a white in the bunch. Which totally amazes me ... I thought for sure I'd get a ton of white, black, deep blue, etc. But I got a lot of autumn tones instead ... some lovely deep browns, crisp goldens, deep apple, and muted blues -- okay not too keen on those, but I will find a use for them.

I will have to find the color charts for these and get them into the 'stash counter' on the side bar .... "DMC Tapestry" I think would be best heading.

Well off to finish my exchange project. blew my knee out this weekend and was bed ridden so didn't get it off to my partner like I thought I would have. I'm so bummed. Even found two mistakes, one was easier to fix than the other ... have GOT to get this done and off.

Splitting hairs

okay caught hubby on the 'Cabela's' site yesterday so I don't feel so bad about this....and he did say 'no more yarn'....but he didn't say anything about no more sewing stuff.

Herrschner's had a 'email only' free shipping offer (only good until tomorrow at midnight so sign up for their sales flyers quick)....and since it is tax free....you only pay for the merchandise! Got to love that.

So I took the budget I usually spend on yarn (since I'm being force fed a yarn-diet) and got some embroidery stuff.

I got:
two lap quilts (one a blue-work sampler, very Amish feeling; one is the double-wedding ring pattern in cross-stitch)
one table topper from the Bucilla's special ed. collection (Garden Trellis pattern, even though I couldn't get a good look at the pattern it seemed nice)
one set of quilt blocks from the Bucilla's sp.ed collection (Garden trellis to match topper. one pack is enough for a lap quilt if you sew them on edge to each other....but I like to trellis so two sets will make a twin)
Scrapbooking stickers (Posh Pet....got to fill the dog's book; Sweet 16....yep oldest daughter turns that age this year--can't believe she made it!)
Tape Writer kit and refill tapes in different colors (this is one of those squeeze guns that embosses the letter/number onto the tape then you peel off the back--like your folks used when you were a kid....only this also has a second dial and does small pictures as well)

That's it....see its not too much. And it should keep me busy during summer vacation--unless I can talk hubby into letting me train the Newfie for pulling a cart.

But that's a different posting Mush

Stash Alert!!

Okay but this has nothint--well very little--to do with yarn. My second addiction is jewelry supplies...and my "crack dealer" is Fire Mountain Gems online.

They are the best! Many of the really cute boxes and perfume boxes that you see in catalogs that you find on other sites first come from Fire Mountain and then get a huge mark up because the company that bought it put $2 worth of cording on it, or flocked the inside of the box, or I've seen some where they have done nothing at all to it--but the box that cost $5 at FM jumped up to $30 on the other site "just because that's what they charged for it".

They are very upfront with the quality of their gems--and we are talking great gems here, even their lower grade gems are beautiful....only once was I ever disappointed and that was because I didn't realize the wide range of color that amethyst comes in (it was almost pink instead of purple), but if I had simply done a tad more checking I would have realized this was the case.

So any how I found that some of my beading supplies had gone AWOL (my daughter borrowed my jewelry stuff to make presents for friends) so I had to order more things. *update 1/15/08...some of it has now shown up*

My order was placed online on 11/24/07 (Saturday night), I paid for Best Ground-regular shipping, and it was on my doorstep on 11/30/07----WOW. That is really impressive for regular shipping.

I decided this time to try a "new" brand for bugle & seed beads. Of course I ordered some of the old stand bys as well just to be safe (pardon the photos....I used our servalance camera to take them)

I have heard of Delica and Dyna-Mites before but I had not heard of Ming Tree...so I just had to give them a try....I also got a no-name hank of blue bagles...it came with 12 strands of 73 beads each=876 beads....1.3oz/37 grams.

More on Regia

Okay a bit of things I have learned:

Regia is a Coats product made in Denmark. It has several different varieties under each grouping....the fädig line (3,4,&6) each have a couple of subcatagories-usually based on the coloring styles.

I have two types of Regia now....and I'm glad.

The Bamboo Color which I just got....45% bamboo, 40% Virgin Wool (which they translated to "New Wool" on the label), 15% Polyamide. It is pretty soft, it has kind of a funny smell (but that could be due to shipping), it has a nice feel to it--can't wait to use it.

The first one I got is the Regia 4fädig Notion Color---boy did it take me a while to find the code for that double-dotted a, let me tell you!--it is 75% Virgin Wool, 25%Polyamide. Its made for socks but damn is it scratchy! The colors are nice and bright, but its so scratchy I'm almost afraid to work with it....Woolease nearly cuts my skin, I hate to think what this will do. Its making my feet itch just thinking of it as a pair of socks.

If you are interested in their other yarns, and can understand or muddlethru danish you can go to the Regia yarn webpage.

small stash addition

Okay so Herrschners.com started their annual fall yarn clearance and as a member I got a one week head start....well I was good (for once) and only added a small amount to my stash:

3 balls of Regia Bamboo (Blue Spot)

I've heard all the raging about the bamboo yarn so when I found that this was less than $5/ball, and having done my research on what other places charge-I jumped at it.

Three balls should be enough for a pair of socks for someone big, or two pair for someone small...haven't made up my mind yet.

Also got some pattern booklets though:

Leisure Arts book #3774..."Fur, Fur, and more Fur"....it has a pattern for boot cuffs in it--if you aren't familiar with these they go onto your boots like a set of spats or "boot socks"....cool thing is, with the fake fur you can make Saskwatch boots in any color you want--you can change them to match your outfit too! Afghans, hats, mittens, a capelet (you can make a politically correct fur stole, and its machine washable!!!

Spin-off magazine's "Socks"....yep, nice simple title isn't it? 20 patterns in all! The only complaint I have with it so far-and I really haven't had a lot of time to puruse thru it yet-is that each patten has a sketching of a "yarn sample" that is supposed to be actual size...now I'm assuming that this is meant for those who spin their own yarn; the one thing I was surprised to see because I hadn't seen it on any other pattern is that where it lists the materials needed it lists the yarn by approximate size (such as "fingering to lace-weight"), then it give the wrap/inch...now I've seen WPI tools but never knew any patterns that used them so I have never had a use for one; some of the patterns are very specific as to yarn content (one asks for yarn that is three ply-one ply of silk, one of lambswool, the last of angora), I'm not sure if this is just to make sure that you will acheive a simular look or if it really makes that big of a deal to the pattern.

Three Cross-stitch Leaflets:
StitchWorld X-Stitch #03-249 "Life on the Farm"... apples, cows, chickens, barns, etc.
StitchWorld X-Stitch #03-200 "Medieval Pheasant Tapestry"...it goes with:
StitchWorld X-Stitch #03-209 "Medieval Swan Tapestry"... I really liked the "sampler" feel of them even though there aren't any alphabets or stitch varieties involved (just cross stitch), I like the little motifs I can pick out of them...houses, flowers, bunnies, flowering trees, squirrels, leaves, corn stalks, etc.

Now granted they were out of stock of some of the stuff I wanted...and I did order a bit the day before because they had some stuff on sale too....but really I was really good only getting the three balls of yarn.

New Side Bar Items

I have added two new side-bar items for those who are curious....and to make sure I don't buy the same thing twice (like I did with my "Neptune" Galaxy yarn, and like I just did yesterday with my Gypsy"Evolution")....go ahead and take a look. I am just doing the stuff that I've gotten since last year....eventually I will get to the stuff in the boxes, bags, closets, den....I think I've got some still out in the garage too.

There is one called the "Stash Counter" which is arranged by Manufacturer, Brand, Color, color#/dyelot - quantity

The other is called the "Equipment Counter" which is arranged by Craft, Item, Style, length, Size, Type

I've stuck them way at the bottom because I know its going to get really, really long!

Enjoy the browse thru!

Why you can't leave me alone for a second....

Okay so hubby went out of town last week and well, I got bored with out him and I had just about enough of my new socks....so I went online. Bad thing...especially when I get the new email from Herrschner's telling me about a new yarn sale...

I'm a very bad girl. I'm a very, very bad girl!

This is what 25 balls of Plume FX (5 each of "Peacock", "Raven", "Soft Pink", "Cafe Latte", and "Cardinal", it feels just like soft downy feathers).....14 skeins of StyleCraft's Gypsy (2 each of "Mood", "Fantasy", "Paradise", "Mystic", "Horizon", "Jade" and "Sunset"...its sooo soft...think of a fluffy puppy and you've got it!).......6 skeins of Hot Socks (3 each of "Nightskies" and "Earth"...extremely scratchy by the feel of it....maybe a while before I use it).....5 sets of Knit Sticks (the needles with the build-in ruler, sizes 5-9).....two sets of point protectors...and a partridge in a pear tree....looks like. Well, there was some other needlecraft stuff I got as well that isn't in the photo...but then I don't really count that stuff as part of my stash.

I'm so naughty.

Jimmy Beans Update 4

Yea!!! The last of the order came yesterday...didn't dare write anything about it for fear of hubby finding out.

Final delivery came in soft mailing envelope (the vinyl water resistant kind)...Inside it were my single ball of "Ducky" colored aMAIZing and my 2 hanks of Lorna's Laces in "Bee Stripe".

I was a little surprised when I took a really good look at the receipt...I DID pay for the signature service...but no one told the post office that! Both times the package was dropped off in the mail box without a sig being sought after. Looking at the package it does say "e/ USPS DELIVERY CONFIRM" so I don't know if that's just a tracking service or if that is the post office's way of saying "Get a damn signature" that got ignored! Either way, I'll save the $2 extra bucks next time and just go regular delivery...since I don't know which side goofed up on this, it hard to tell who to be disappointed with...but since I paid Jimmy Beans most people would blame them--not crying over $2...this time.

It was so funny, last time my daughter found they had included two pieces of "Whether's Originals" as a thank-you gift...perhaps as an apology for not getting it all off at the same time (?)....any ways, there was no free gift this time...LOL...why do I find this amusing? Because this was the part of the order that I was really waiting for and had let them know so...if anything this is the order where I would have expected a little something extra.

But that's okay....if you go thru life expecting things you will be (a)disappointed, (b)shunned by your fellow man and (c)less as a person, in my opinion--you get what you pay for...well, mostly.
Now about the yarn:

aMAIZing:

It is actually a flat ribbon yarn about 1/8 of an inch thick (don't have the accurate ruler handy) and is woven instead of spun by the looks of things. It doesn't seem to have much "spring" to the fibre so it would be useless as a sock yarn. The texture reminds me of crochet-cotton, it seems very soft at first feel until you start to really feel the fiber of it all...like crochet-cotton it has a firm, almost rough feel to it...I'm not sure I like this brand at all. I'm glad I only bought a single ball....it will likely go onto the "need a quick grab" shelf of my stash...to collect dust....maybe I will find a use for it.

aMAIZing by SWTC (South West Trading Company);

cost $9/ball;

size 50g/130m or approx. 1.75 oz/142 yds.;

gauge 6 sts & 8 rows= 1" (24sts/32 rows=4") US size 7 needles;

care machine washable/dry;

Content 100% Corn Fiber;

company website: SWTC, Inc-The Home of SoySilk Yarns

Lorna's Laces, Shepherd Socks:

Actually I'm glad the photo was inaccurate on this one. The yellow is actually a very nice dandelion gold...no wait, dandelions aren't deep enough...its almost a marigold color and the black appears to be a true black....as opposed to just a very deep green...I like the looks of it.

It comes in a hank form, so there is some balling that needs to get done before stitching can begin. It is very soft and will make the most luscious socks! It would also be great for thin mittens or light scarf...a sweater would be wonderful too, but at $11/hank it would come out rather expensive!

The coloring I find unique--but then I've never used a hand dyed yarn before--one half of the skein is this lovely gold and the other is the luxurious black with a band of intermingle...okay that part is just muddy and ucky, almost an olive or grass stained color (so I guess this means the black really is a deep green, the standard in the industry) but I suppose it is the nature of the beast.

The hank itself is roped upon itself...not familiar with roping? That means they have put the yarn into a large circle and then pulled it out taught, twisting it tightly then letting it naturally coil upon itself--one end is then tucked into the other and the natural tendency of the yarn to both work with/fight against the twist keeps it all in place without over stretching the yarn fibers themselves.

I had heard praises of the yarn from others and being that it sounds like a rather rare issue...JBW says there are only 100 skeins produced a year in each color, 2 skeins needed per pair of socks...I had to give it a try.

I don't usually like working with wool as it seems to cut into my hands, but unlike Wool-ease, this has a very nice flow to it. As I have typed I have been running it over my fingers to get an idea as to how it will play on my fingers during stitching...it seems to slide well, but I can see I will have to take a few breaks at the beginning to get used to things. Still it is better than I expected for wool. As I get knitting I will keep everyone updated on how well it takes to small needles (which it is supposed to be made for)...frequent "frogging"....and how well the stretch/ease is.

Shepherd Socks by Lorna's Laces;

cost:$11/hank

weight: sock weight/standard 1 size: approx. 215 yds/2 oz or 196.5m/56.5 grams

gauge: 7 sts/1" (no listing of needle size): JBW gauge: 7sts/1" size 2 needles (28sts=4"); neither wrapper or JBW gave gauge of row.

care: machine washable;no drying instructions given

content: 80% Superwash wool 20% nylon company

website: Lorna's Laces:All Natural Hand-Dyed Yarns Well off to start some balling!

JBW RATING
Customer Service: started out stronger than most, but kind of lacked off with the second part of the order

Prices: A tad high for my tastes, but a lot lower than most of the places I've seen offering hand-dyed yarns. If the prices were a little lower I would probably shop here more often.

Delivery Service: orders arrived within 2 days of shipping notice, since my order was fairly small the envelopes worked okay but would have preferred getting the order with the wooden needles in a box of some sort to guard against breakage (the needles are fine, nothing got broke).

Shipping Fees: very reasonable! $4 up to $75, and then its free....I really like this. Most places I shop with have a sliding fee scale based on how much you spend, usually an order under $35 will add an additional $10 in shipping...I absolutely love this feature, I can make a small purchase and still pay less than the yarn for shipping. This means that I would probably buy from the company a LOT more than the others.
Over All Rating:Well, JBW shines in customer service and shipping costs; its just too bad that the prices are out of my normal comfort range. While the shipping costs would bring me back time and again for small orders, the high prices stop me dead in my tracks. Perhaps I've just been spoiled by the $3/skein deals that acrylic, nylon, and blended yarns give me but if the price gets higher than a cup of coffee I am much less likely to buy it.

There is no real invoice, just a detailed register slip...which is fine in many aspects, but I would like something a little less flimsy for my records.

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part5

So finally....I had to add to the embroidery/cross-stitch pile as well. A few years back, before gas prices went thru the roof, my husband decided that he wanted to see all the light houses in the USA...so we started with the nearest one and have yet to see any of the others, but knowing his passion for the sea we will see them all. {have I mentioned that I'm deathly afraid of water?}
So I got this wall-hanging/lap quilt when it was on sale at http://www.herrschners.com/ and decided that in order to give him some incentive I will only do the light houses that we have actually visited...well okay that HE has actually visited.

So right now the only one I can do is Split Rock in Duluth, MN. It is the one in the middle on the top row. We, okay he, had to walk all the way to the end of the pier there. He had our oldest take a photo of the rest of us....under the pier beacon so that I could hold on tight to the supports because I hate water...our son had to back up so far on the pier that I thought for sure he was going to slip off the edge (he had one foot half way off).
Now last I checked the site they had sold out of them, they were on clearence for $5.97 so I can't blame the ladies for grabbing them all up!

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part4

This is actually my biggest weakness when it comes to sock yarn these days....Brownie Socks. My youngest is a Brownie scout (entering her second year) and I just refuse to pay the prices they want for the extended uniform parts. I know it goes to support the cause, but still I just can not bring myself to pay $5 a pair that she will just out grow and I can't recycle the yarn. At least if I make them myself I can "unstitch" them and then make them to fit her leg & foot again using the same yarn! AND each pair will only have cost me....get this....$1.94 with the Starlette Chocolate, and $3.98 with the Mellowspun Camel & Cocoa! And depending on how well they work up, I may even get two pair out of each....we will have to see. Both yarns are available at Mary Maxim's online.

I can't find a pattern online yet for the official Brownie pattern, but I don't think anyone in her troop will grimace if I find something close (currently the online GSA catalog are out of stock of them and they don't know when they will be coming in... So making is my only other option...the local store didn't have any either).
Well, that's it for stash adds for now! More next week....yep, more!
I've heard of ladies going on "yarn diets"....but remember....as Richard Simmon says "the first three letters in the word diet spell the word DIE!"

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part3

This RH stash is from herrschners.com and share the color "Crayon" but notice the difference? The RH Sport is so much darker than the worsted RH Kids yarn that I'm not sure the hat/mitten/cowl/liner set I had planned for my daughter will work--of course we just got the list required supplies for next year and it specified "Waterproof" mittens which means the really expensive ones that she will lose after a week or so anyways and then we will have to buy more...I've been wondering if felting would make a garment more waterproof. I know I can't do that with the RH because its acrylic, but http://www.knitpicks.com/ has some really nice wool for sale at a decent price...

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part2

Oh these I really like...the RH Soft Yarn is for an afghan I have been coveting in a book I have for about 10 years but I just couldn't find a yarn I thought it would look nice in. Each of the fall colors will be crocheted into filet panels depicting different types of leaves and then joined to make a beautiful Equinox Afghan! The colors are: Dark Leaf, Paprika, Paprika, Toast, Tangerine) the Sweet Pea on top is for my oldest daughter to "play" with...cost? $2.97 at Herrschners (reg. 3.19, so not a huge savings but still...). The other yarn, RH Sport is in Camouflage color to go with the worsted RH I used to make my youngest son's hat, cowl, and gloves (on the needle now) with...I thought a matching set of boot liners would be nice, but now that I have it I think it might be too thin for what I had planned so I may make him some slipper-socks instead.

New Stash Arrivals-2007Jul8-14, part1

Okay, so I was very naughty last week....but then when isn't a Slytherin naughty, right?....and ordered some more yarn (like I really needed more....but hey I got inspired).

Here are photos of what I got and what my plans are for each of them:

This is my Bernat Galaxy Yarn....this yarn has been discontinued so I've been having quite the time finding it at a decent price--I just refuse to pay $6 a skein for yarn! I thought it would be great to crochet an afghan that utilizes all the colors in the order of the solar system. So I bought (left to right) Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, and Neptune from Mary Maxim's @ $0.97 a skein (I pay full price for very little, let me tell you!). I have located several more colors at http://www.joann.com/ and http://www.herrschners.com/ (they have one called Deep Space, that I would love to use for the background color...I figure 10 skeins would cover me, but they still want about $4.50 a skein...I can wait them out)
