"Who Cares About the Economy?"

Those words came from my 11 year olds mouth today as I listened to the radio and Comte plated this post ... And that is probably the same thing that most adults feel too when they listen to the news.

Who cares?

We all better start caring ... Not just Our economy in the US but around the world as well.

Because very quietly ... Almost as we slept ... They ... Whoever "they" are ... Have moved us into a Global economy.

Affront from the first loan from France to fund the revolutionary war to where other nations actually own the debt ... To other nations making the products we need for everyday life ... To criminal charges being dropped for financial favors I guess I better not say that since it's just specukation on my part - but the coincidence was awe-inspiring.

But just to show the extent of this new Global economy ... You will have to read the next post about the UN ...

It is so sad that everyone has their hand in our pockets ... But the cost will really be - not our grandchildrens future - but our own children's future as the problems which everyone is sweeping under the carpet for contemplation "later" are making a bigger and bigger bump under that rug.

BREAKING NEWS: Saudi Arabia Government

One of the contributors to Fox News let slip a bit of news which I have not heard of on any other news cast ....

King Abdulah of Saudi Arabia
is reported to have died
during the night

This can mean some pretty big stuff!

I am really hoping that this is just a rumor and that it isn't true ...

the last thing the world needs right now is yet another government in flux in this area!

BREAKING NEWS: Egypt Claims New Government

Okay - so they are claiming again today that Mubarak is at the Red Sea compound and that the Army is in charge but the VP will handle the day-to-day things.

None of this sounds right ...

it looked like the Mubarak speech from yesterday was pre-taped ... but he didn't give any indication that he was actually stepping down.  It seems as if he has conveniently disappeared.

I still say that if he had decided to step down then he would have been calling Isreal, the US, Canada, the Queen/PM of England, etc. to give them the heads up first ... so they would know who they are dealing with.

This really seems to me to be a military coup with the vp as the beard ...

I hope the Egyptian people know what they are getting into and this isn't going to be another Iraq ... you know, they were happy when Saddam got toppled but then didn't have any idea what they would do? and then they complained because they didn't realize just how much the government did.

I hope that things go along peacefully for them without too much interruption of daily life unless its for the better ... but change is never smooth.  Even in a society where things are set up to handle change, there are issues.
=======================

OOOOOO - it sounds like the military has taken total control

the news (ABC) is reporting that the VP office may not exist at all anymore

The VP might be out of a job completely - not even as interim president ....

this is getting "interesting" .... keep an eye on things .... especially your wallet.

BREAKING NEWS: Egypt to get new government

(On Going UpDates Posted at Bottom)
CNN twitter reporting that Mubarak is handing the power over to the vice-president very soon.
================
Information Secetary of Egypt told Rueters that Mubarak is NOT stepping down
---------------------------------
Egyptian State newspaper reporting that Secetary General of the "National Democratic Party" has asked Mubarak to hand over power (info reported via twitter by third party)
===============
Official reports say that Mubarak is NOT in Cairo - that he has gone to his compound at the Red Sea with the leader of the Egyptian army. (Reuters)

The military has announced on National television that it has stepped in to 'guard the country' ... and it assured people that Mubarak will "meet their demands" (AP)
=====================
There has been a report on a minor (at least I think they are) Internet news blog that the Saudi Arabian King called President Obama and told him not to "humiliate" Mubarak ... and that if the US pulls funding/aid for Egypt, then Saudi Arabia will step in and give the money.
++++++++++++++++
New reports are that Sec Gen of NDP has stopped Mubarak from making speech handing power to VP of Egypt ...
======
To hand power to VP would mean Egypt has to change their Constitution ... CNN.
===========
Most of staff evacuated from Egyptian TV in fears of protesters breaking in ... so you have to wonder if they think the announcement isn't going to be what the people are expecting.
===============
Penetta originally said CIA reported that Mubarak would be stepping down - but now he is saying he has no news from the CIA, that the info he was repeating from other news reports he had heard.
Now doesn't that inspire confidence?
===============
Isreal is on pins & needles waiting to see what happens - they are concerned that new power coming in might dump the Peace Treaty that Egypt and Isreal had just signed not that long ago.
===================
Egyptian Information Secetary saying that Mubarak has not left the country ...
Muslim Brotherhood sources claim he has ....
Official at Egyptian airport saying that presidential vehicles have not been alerted, so indication Mubarak not leaving.
==============
wow - can't believe nothing officially has happened yet ... everything I've already posted is just hitting the airwaves at 1pm ct.  cool

BREAKING NEWS: Egypt to get new government

The scuttlebutt is that President Mubarak will be stepping down from his post ...

the hope is that it will be in such a way that it will keep the Muslim Brotherhood from taking hold of the country .... fears being that it would make a second Iran-like government in the region ...

Tehrer square has become crowded with people - more than there was during the protests that I've seen ....

now lets hope that this isn't just a ploy to get all the desidents into one area to take them out in a mass 'crack down' ... but I would doubt it.

There has also been rumors that Mubarak will be stepping down at the urging of a military gun ... that there may have been a military coup, in hopes of keeping the cap on things.

I have to wonder if we won't end up with another Uganda situation .... where the military leader gets put into power and then doesn't want to give it up ...

I just hope the Egyptian people have thought this all out ....
and that they don't get something that they weren't expecting.
