NY's 16-Mile Car Tunnel Would Be Longest
So they want to build a "chunnel" like tunnel from Long Beach to New England....just so the hoity-toities can avoid traffic. Only thing is, no one apparently bothered to take New England's opinion of the project because in the article the mayor of the town where the tunnel would empty into commented in the story that their roads can't handle the traffic!!!!
This would mean that they will have to redo the roads there....have what little access from roads be blocked during the construction.....raise taxes beyond belief to pay for it--even though they say it won't take taxes we all know how that works, there will be taxes....and it sounds like the developer is planning on it no matter what either of the cities have to say about it.
He is really pulling out all the stops on this one. Says that 80,000 cars would use it daily....that it would lessen air pollution by having people drive shorter distances...and it would be underground so people wouldn't have to look at it.
Okay here's my questions:
1. what if there's a crash in the tunnel?
2. what if there's a fire like they had in the Chunnel?
3. what about carbon-monoxide build up?
4. being it will be underwater.....where would the emergency exits lead to?
5. how would the tunnels be effected by either earthquake or hurricane?
etc. etc.
There's a lot NOT answered.
