"The existence of ice on Mars was confirmed today by NASA scientists, the first time frozen water has been sampled on another planet. Water in liquid form is an essential ingredient for life.Yah!!!! I'm so glad this worked out for them ... they have been having such bad luck lately.
Whitish, dice-sized chunks, which were dug from the rocky red soil and warmed in the sun, vanished four days after the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Phoenix probe dug them up June 15. They confirm what NASA satellites have suggested for years: Frozen water exists several centimeters beneath Mars's surface.
Scientists believe ice exists on planets including Pluto, though Phoenix is the first probe to confirm it on the ground. The survey is part of NASA's theme in Mars exploration: follow the water."
Of course this whole thing could have been avoided by just having ... um ... sent astronauts there. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it ... I highly doubt that there is going to be 'intelligent algae' like they had in that one movie (you know the one with the guy from 'Friends')
But still - as a NASA wannabee - I am so glad that they were proven right on this. Now lets hope they new President will keep the funding going and get a crew to the planet before the end of the next decade (no reason we should have to have longer than 2020)
