"Barbara Rivera told the Houston Chronicle that her husband was hospitalized after eating pico de gallo, a tomato-based condiment, at a Mexican restaurant in late May.It makes sense that someone suffering from a lowered/comprimised immune system would die from complications caused by the disease. This man suffered from cancer, but that should not lessen the severity of the samonella...although it will make it harder to prove fault in a 'wrongful death' suit.
Restaurants and grocery stores across the U.S., including McDonald's and Wal-Mart, have halted sales of some raw tomatoes because of the salmonella outbreak."
I had to look it up because I had never heard of "Pico de Gallo" but wikipedia has a photo and it looks very much like a 'dry' salsa .... chopped tomatoes, onions, chillies, spices ... but it isn't cooked so it doesn't get mushy.
looks really good.
