Okay - so its been a long while since I have discussed this one. For those who are out of touch and need a re-cap:
The guy that owns/runs the Harry Potter Lexicon online decided that he was going to convert into book form ... the only info he has on the site are from books & interviews ... that's it. I haven't heard if any quotes from the books will be included as they are online (I wouldn't think so though because that would be a blatant copyright violation).
Anyhow .... JK Rowlings said no (with the push from WB I'm sure).
So now the book is tied up in the court system.
The premise being that JKR is putting together her own Official Encyclopedia for release (I haven't found a date for her book yet).
I don't see the problem really.
First all the info is already out there - he just did the work in putting it all together. Second, the book that JKR is proposing will be so different being that she has boxes and boxes of info that people can't even imagine.
So will they be in 'compition' with each other? No. Let's face it, people will buy JKRs book because it will be more complete...people will buy HPL just to support a fan with a great idea.
I think this is just a publicity stunt on the WB's part ... misguided worry on JKR's part ... and a great achievement for the HPL's part.
Let him publish!!! Let him publish!!!
Its books like this that will keep the franchise going instead of it fading into receases of book stores over time. Want proof?
Star Trek.
