okay ... FL has passed a new law trying to curb voter fraud and the NAACP is fighting it.
I have to say I agree but for different reasons .... NAACP is saying its discrimative .... I have an issue with documentation.
you will need a driver's liscense and social security card in order to vote. Well this can be an issue -- i got my number when I was 16 yrs old, I no longer have the card .... I'm sure I'm not the only person who never thought much about that growing up. After all on the bottom of the card it says very clearly "Not To Be Used As A Form Of Identification" ....
that means that the state is using a federal document not meant for id as id --- that's wrong. That would be akin to saying you have to bring in your tax return to vote.
the other part the 'driver's liscnse' ... they need to change that to "a valid state of FL identification" such as a driver's license, driver's permit, or state i.d. card. people like me who do not drive, do not have an liscense -- and you will always run into people who will not accept an i.d. car unless they are told its acceptable.
I once had a place refuse to take my check because I had a state id instead of a driver's liscense because it was never made clear to her that they are interchangeable for checks .... I've also had someone look at my ID and say 'I've never seen one of those before' ... the funniest one though was when the st. paul dmv messed up and gave me a Senior Citizen card while still in college ... yep, it even said on it that I was supposed to be able to ride the bus for 10cents -- I tried it once, the driver laughed about it - I should have made him honor it, but you know I'm just too honest that way (I wasn't really expecting him to allow it, just wanted to see 'what if').
yeah, I can see where this is going to cause problems .... you can not use ss# as a form of ID!!! and they need to make it clear that photo driver's permit & state ID cards are allowed as well.
