cbs4denver.com - Metro State Professor Investigated For Palin Essay Assignment:
"Metro State College is investigating a professor who asked students to write an essay critical of Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin. One student said the instructor singled out Republican students in the class and allowed others to ridicule them."
#1, teachers don't "ask" they "tell" you your assignments ... there is no 'pretty please' to it. He may have "gave" them and assignment ... but he would not "offer" it like a tray of petit fours at a tea party.
When I was in college we had a professor give an extra credit project of protesting for Cuban rights at our school (state university) ... it was cancelled because it was against the rules to tie any political stance or event to a grade, not even extra credit. Of course we weren't told that it was cancelled until we had showed up and sign the extra credit sheet.I''m know this isn't the first incidence of a teacher pushing their political veiws, and I'm pretty positive it won't be the last. In fact, last year my daughter had to do a campaign commercial for one of the nominees for the Presidential race and they had to do who they were assigned.
The majority of the nominees assigned happened to be Democrat ... I think there was like 2 or 3 repubs assigned ... and my daughter just happened to get Hillary Clinton. she didn't do the best on the grade (got a C) but I was shocked at how few repubs were assigned. The teacher didn't do a 'need to chose a nominee from the other party of your own' or 'chose one yourself' or the like. (daughter has democrat leanings at the moment ... she doesn't have a job yet).
It starts in high school, then those kids grow up to be professors/teachers and they don't realize its wrong because that was the way it was done for them ... welcome to the product of the 60's!
