Many convicted felons remain on voter rolls, according to Sun Sentinel investigation -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com:
"The Division of Elections has a backlog of more than 108,000 possible felons who have registered to vote since January 2006 that it hasn't had the time or staff to verify. Browning estimated that about 10 percent, once checked, would be ineligible."but this works out to just 175/day ... certainly the staff they have could do that much.
For those wondering, yes this would have been enough to turn the tide of the 2000 election ... Bush and Gore were only seperated by 537 votes ... yep that's it, officially." ... More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential battleground state, a Sun Sentinel investigation has found.
Many are faithful voters, with at least 4,900 turning out in past elections.
Another 5,600 are not likely to vote Nov. 4 — they're still in prison.
Of the felons who registered with a party, Democrats outnumber Republicans more than two to one. "
however if the story is true then 3, 267 people (using 2/3 of the 4000 proven voters) would not have voted for Gore, and then Bush would have won the outright majority anyways.

Interesting tidbit ... while checking on the numbers for the final tallies of FL numbers in 2000 for Pres. elections I ran across the numbers for DC as well ....
in 2004 (the last pres election) there were nearly ten times as many registered/voted democrats as there were republicans. Now since there is something to be said that the majority of residents of DC work for government officials ... you could conclude that there are 10 times as many staff for the democrats than there are for repubs ....
so why do the dems need so many more people ... and how can we expect them to cut costs when they can't even cut staff?
