Okay so it was a tough question and I would hate to be the judge on the case ... BUT the constitution of the United States has already answered this question ...
A boy here in MN is suffering from Hodgkins Lymphoma, which is 95% treatable with chemotherapy/80% fatal without it (well, lets be fair, thats without ANY care for it).
The boy is 13 yrs old ... got one of these, they dont think things thru so really its up to the parents to make the decisions, but they say having cancer matures these kids fast ... well he decided he didn't want the treatment.
The family is primarily Roman Catholic, but they also belong to a Native American religious group (don't ask, it can be done) which favors alternative, natural medicine ...
hey - I can see it ... no parent would want to put their kids thru the hell that usually comes with chemo -- I mean this kid has already lost his hair .....
BUT it is a freedom of religion question - not a case of parents not taking care of their child. This is doctors thinking they know what is best.
Its the same question which has arisen sooooo many times before with 7th Day Advents/Assembly of God type religions ... the Amish even ... this question has been answered.
I'm sorry --- I may not agree with the parents (I would want the treatment for my kid) ... but THEY ARE the parents ... the state should not have the right to take these decisions away from parents simply because it doesn't agree.
this is a bad decision --
