Yeah yeah yeah

'Cash for Clunkers' Program to End Monday Night - Political News - FOXNews.com:
"President Barack Obama said in an interview Thursday that the program has been 'successful beyond anybody's imagination' but dealers were overwhelmed by the response of consumers. He pledged that dealers 'will get their money.'"
it was another one of the administrations big-to-do's about nothing. While it was an interesting idea - using tax payer money to get people to buy cars during a time when the government doesn't have the funds to spare - you have to understand what went wrong, really.

First, not getting all their ducks in a row before it began - they should have been OVER STAFFED not understaffed from the beginning ... but even when they found they didn't have enough people they didn't hire more.

Second, getting the program going before dealerships/consumer's knew exactly what paperwork was supposed to be finished.

Third, too much paperwork and crashing websites .... made doing the forms a nightmare for the dealerships

Lastly, dealerships were getting screwed over and the consumer's in turn! Dealership's are not letting the cars off the lots until they get the government's ok on the applications, but they have to have the old cars on lot to make the application - which leaves people without cars. People who thought they had a great deal found that they had lost the rebate because of a simple/slight error that wasnt their fault.

Now they say that after Monday those applications that were rejected can be resubmitted -- so if there's enough money people might still get their rebates.

So why is the plug being pulled - is it because it won't have enough money? Nope, in my opinion its because dealerships pulled out of it. Who can afford to front the government money when they don't know if they will be reimbursed??

I'm wondering what effect this will have on the secondary market? The cars turned in must be crushed - which will less the number of cars in used car lots, then there is the junk-business which pulls out the useable parts and resells them (great if you have an older car which didn't qualify and you need to do some backyard-mechanics to save money).
