Odin - What Are They Doing To Your Nation????

Are they frickin' crazy???

Barrack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize --- FOR WHAT?????

"The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009, is to be awarded to President Barrack Obama for his extra-ordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. "

Only thing is .... the nominations closed Feb 1st ....

Obama had only been in office 1 1/2 wks!!!

What did he do in his first week of office to get this prize?? Absolutely DICK -- this was a pure unadulterated politically motivated win ...

Look I'm not saying that he couldn't possibly win on his own -- I'm just saying considering that he had just gotten INTO office, there isn't anything he could have done at the time to warrant even the nomination!

I don't see it -- unless he was speaking as President before he was sworn in - which would fall under the heading of "treason" ... there can only be ONE President at a time, and it wasn't him yet.

So what qualifications does a Peace Prize winner need to meet?
According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses." (wikipedia)

Remember, who they have given the award to in the past (partial list):

  • Fredric Passy: Organizer of the first Universal Peace Conference
  • Jean Henry Durnant: Organizer of the Internatinal Red Cross
  • President Teddy Roosevelt: mediating peace during the Russo-Japanese war, creation of the Hague Internatonal mediation body
  • International Peace Bureau: sole purpose to bring peace
  • International Committee of the Red Cross: 'nuff said
  • President Woodrow Wilson: for creating the League of Nations
  • Ferdinand Buisson: Founder League of Human Rights
  • Arthur Henderson: Disarmanent Conference of 1932 (awarded in 1934)
  • Carlos S. Lamas: Mediator, Paraquay-Bolivia conflict
  • Cordell Hull: organizer of the UN
  • Ralph Bunche: Acting Mediator in Palenstine 1948 (awarded 1950)
  • Albert Schweitzer: Missionary Surgeon
  • George C. Marshall: drafter of the Marshall Plan (rebuilding Europe after WW2)
  • UN High Commisioner for Refugees: founded in 1951 (awarded in 1954)
  • Martin Luther King Jr: Leader, Southern Christian Leadership Conference
  • UNICEF: 'nuff said (just too bad it has taken the turn it has)
  • Norman Borlaug: International Maize & Wheat Improvement center which helped crops in Asia & Latin America
  • Henry Kissinger & Lê Ðức Thọ : 1973 Paris Peace agreement that would have brought about peace in Vietnam (Le Duc refused the award, since there still was no peace in his country)
  • Betty Williams & Mairead Corrigan: Founders Northern Ireland Peace Movement (renamed Community for Peace People)
  • Amnesty International: 'nuff said
  • Mohemed Al-Sadat & Menachem Begin: Camp David Agreement, bringng peace between Egypt & Isreal
  • Mother Teresa: her work in Calcutta & Leader of "Missionaries of Charity"
  • Lech Wałęsa: work with Solidarity movement in Poland & first President ... told the Nobel council that the award was too soon, no one knew what the results would be.
  • Desmond Tutu: political prisoner
  • UN Peace Keeping Forces: 'nuff said
  • the 14th Dalai Lama: 'nuff said
  • Nelson Mandela: spoke to end Apartheid,
  • Yasser Arafat, Yitzhak Rabin, & Shimom Perez: efforts for Peace in Middle East
  • Fmr. President Jimmy Carter: "for his decades of work ...." and Habitat for Humanity which is a great program
  • International Atomic Energy Agency: for efforts to prevent nuclear energy being used for military purposes
  • Marti Ahtisaari: for 3 decades of service trying to resolve international conflicts

As you can see these past winners have had YEARS of peace work under their belt ... they more than deserved the prize they got (yes Al Gore got it, but I didn't list him - his prize was also purely political & had nothing to do with 'peace').

What could Obama have done so far to deserve this prize??
I want to know WHO nominated him and why?

So what qualifications do you have to have to nominate someone? Members of national assemblies and congresses, University professors, International Judges, & special advisers.

This year a record 205 nominations were received by the Nobel committee -- and out of all those OBAMA is the winner??? WHY?

Speculation is .... he got the award for not being Bush. That's a bit disingenuous, even for me .... I just say was too soon for him to be considered for this years award. The committee rushed to judgement -- we have no idea what effect he will have yet .... I don't see it .... yet.

I would think there were more 'deserving' people who should have been considered for this year.
