Election 2012 - State Elections

UPDATE:
Little Birds Are Tweeting that Akin has decided ... After having most republicans around him disavow him ... He has decided to drop out of the race ....

So I am not finishing this story

I wonder if there is still time to get someone else in his spot?

Or will the democrat run unopposed?

Wouldn't it be a kick in the pants of the Dem lost to the Repub even though he pulled out?

MISSOURI HEADS UP

I can not believe I'm about to recommend that a state re-elect a democrat but here it goes ...

If you have not seen the "Jaco Report" interview of Senator/Representative Akin -- DO IT

Here are just a few of his statements:

On the question of abortion:
" ... You optimize life - for instance a woman has a tubal pregnancy or something, well technically my understanding is that life begins at conception so you've technically've had conception but the child doesn't have a chance and will soon kill the mother - ok so I would say in Jose kinds of situations you try to optimize life"

Wait he wasn't done yet ... He suffered from foot-in-mouth disease

On abortion after a rape:
" ... First of all from what I understand doctors, that's really rare if it it's a legitimate rape the female body has way to try to shut that whole thing down but let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something - I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment should be on the rapist and not attacking the child"

Jaco (the interviewer let that slide instead of calling him on this ...

WTF?

A "legitimate rape"?

So if a woman gets pregnant after saying she was raped them in Akins mind it WASN'T legitimate?

What happened to the whole optimizing life theory?

Now I'm no fan of abortion - in fact I'm pretty much against it - but I can totally understand where there are circumstances where the mother would be better off ...

Mothers-life, rape, incest, age of the parent, etc are a few of those ... Then there is the ideas concerning birth defects - while I understand that these children can grow up to be effective citizens, I also understand that there are certain people who simply can not handle such a "burden" in there minds or experience ...

Ultimately it comes down to the peace one can make with their own god(s)

Akin said he also believed that the 17th amendment should be repealed ... For those unfamiliar with it:

Before the 17th Amendment SENATORS going to DC were APPOINTED by the STATE LEGISLATURE ... Members of the Federal House of Representatives, however, we're VOTED in by the PEOPLE

This led to quite a hit of cronyism in the US government ... especially one which made federal laws & budgets ...

The 17th Amendment laid out the length of terms (they had never been defined before) and put the power of electing individuals in the hands of the people - just like representatives to the house - it actually gave the people of states MORE power

There is a movement to repeal the 17th amendment under the hospice of returning the right to the state ...

Senator - how does taking the votes from the people and giving it back to the state legislature helping state rights? I come from a left leaning state, but I live in a right leaning district ... I do not want the left leaning legislature ... Or Governor "Crazy Eyes" ... Appointing one of his buddies to the national senate in exchange for favors
