about 11 miles from Ridgecrest CA a 7.1 quake hit tonight
It was rather humorous (being that I'm outside of CA and have never felt a quake in my life) and quite worrisome (we do deal with tornadoes here though) at the reaction of the UCLA professor who watched the countdown clock on the monitor during the news conference, awaiting for the shock to come where they were at, and when it reached she was like - where is it? Then she instantly was like "there it is" when she realized what she had said!!
This is very disheartening for meteorologists who need people to LISTEN when they give warnings! That's why they are so specific these days with their weather watches - too many oopsies made people stop listening.
In CA they have released a quake app which didn't go off in LA - the USGS said it was because the shaking was less than a mag 3 ...
Because this quake was bigger than the 6.9 from yesterday it is now labeled a Pre-Quake and this one now becomes the new Main Quake.
While this is roughly 100 miles from the San Andrais fault there is a large fault line which is close but the CA professor thought it would be rare if it triggered a quake there.
This quake, they currently figure, was about 10 miles in the earth ... so a bit deeper than the 6.9 of 2019july4
