Above is a video from "Facts Matter" on YouTube ... and in this case they really DO matter.
Like so many out there, I tend to get my news "filtered" through the news - BUT - unlike most people, I am willing to do a bit of research for myself.
First - the decision did NOT nullify R v.W ... what it did do was send the question regarding when/how/why/if back to the INDIVIDUAL STATES .... this is why Mississippi says no termination after 15 weeks (that's nearly 4 months) and the state of Colorado says you can terminate your pregnancy up to, and including, BIRTH.
This is why you HAVE to listen to not only what politicans are saying, but also what they are NOT saying.
Second - it will take 3/4 of states to ratify any Amendment that the US Congress tries to pass regarding this ... and I'm sorry, but there just are NOT enough of those.
Thirdly, there is nothing wrong with Precedence being overturned -- if we didn't allow it, then there would still be nationwide laws against interracial marriages, "separate but equal" when it comes to schools, and slavery (Dredd Scott) ... American Law is a LIVING thing - it can change with time ... no, it MUST change with time.
Lastly, R v.W was based on the SCIENCE OF THE TIME ... it even cited the importance of science in the decision. Since science/biology has become more percise, it would only make sense that the questions surrounding R v. W would be reexamined.
NOW FOR THIS POST ... Facts Matter did a great job breaking how certain states - which I've seen on a couple different newscasts be labelled as "anti" ... well they did a great job explaining things.
"Trigger Ban" states ... Nothing allowed within these states
Idaho
Utah
Wyoming
North Dakota
South Dakota
Oklahoma
Texas
Missouri
Arkansas
Louisiana
Mississippi
Kentucky
Tennessee
Older than 6-8 weeks Banned states (nothing after 6-8 weeks of pregnancy)
Alabama
Georgia
Iowa
Ohio
South Carolina
Was illegal BEFORE R v. W - questions about IF the laws would still apply or even be enforced (likely they will be voided)
Wisconsin
West Virginia
Arizona
Michigan
PREDICTED states which MIGHT ban (according to the Guttman Institute, some group that is part of Planned Parenthood)
Florida
Montana
Indiana
Nebraska
yes, that is **26** out of the current 50 states ... DC is NOT a state (I'm not sure it could actually become a state because of its unique status)
but any way you look at it ... that will NOT be enough to pass an Amendment.
And really, you have to blame CONGRESS for this one -- they should have seen that ANY LAW/RULING has a chance of being overturned at any time by any Supreme Court ...
But just remember ...
the ruling only sends the QUESTION to each STATE! And EACH state will have to decide for themselves what their law is.
