NOT SURE ABOUT THAT ...

So, the Supreme Court _ and its not too often I disagree with their rulings, after all, I don't have a law degree - but this one I've gotta wonder about.

They have decided that the U.S. House of Representatives Commerce Committee, currently under Democratic control, get to see the financial records of Former President Trump (you know that's the term I prefer for all the past Presidents, no matter who they are, not politics involved).

Not just his BUSINESS tax returns, but his personal returns as well ... I would assume that this also includes any financial records for both, not just the tax returns ... but that is just an ASSUMPTION on MY part.

The Court's decision, according to ABC News "GMA", was UNSIGNED ... but also, there doesn't seem to be any DECENTS from any of the justices ... one can conclude that they all agreed with with the arguments made by House Legal Council ... or disagreed with Trump's legal council ... they don't really say.

The House "Ways and Means Committee" claimed they needed to see Trump's taxes to make sure the laws concerning IRS audits of presidential returns were working properly ... so while Trump was only in office for 4 years, they will be albo to have records going back at least 6 years!  I do not know if they doing audits of Presidents AFTER they leave office on a regular basis.

But here's my question:
Why does it need to be Trump's records??
They can look at the records of Carter, Clinton, Bush 2, and Obama if they wanted to check the IRS audit system ... they are all Former Presidents who are still living.
I think we can all agree that a couple of them need to be looked at pretty closely as well.
And, for that mater ...
Why is it that only President's get looked at??
I think the Vice-Presidents are much more likely to play fast-and-loose with the IRS than the Presidents would ... after all, no one pays very close attention to them.
Maybe Sprio Agnew, Nixon's first Vice=President who had to resign over scandals involving money and taxes, shined too bright of a light on the position.  You never hear about VPs getting audited ... EVER ... not since the 70's.

Democrats only have until the beginning of the New Year though - then the Republicans take over the U.S. House of Representatives with a 220 majority ... BUT ... you never know - they could possibly decide to go through with the W&M Committee look at the records, just to save face.

So the next question is ...
IF they DID find a problem - would they let the news media/public know about it??
Would they go after Former President Trump?
Would they minimalize it? Or exaggerate it?

Interesting questions to keep an eye on.

Personally, I don't think there's much in it.  The Democrats moaned about how Trump didn't pay taxes, Trumps claimed he had really good accountants who knew the law - while most of us regular folk don't know any tax people like that, we would LOVE to have them do OUR taxes!
I truly think this started as a way to try to nullify the 2016 eletions without actually denying the election results ... like Trump did in 2020-2021 ... but don't be fooled, it was the exact same thing.  Along with "impeaching" a President AFTER his term was over - what the hoot was that???  It did NOTHING, except waste time and TAX MONEY.

Like my mother always said,
Democrats never met a tax they didn't like
My father would say,
Republicans never saw a tax break they wouldn't take

Both sides are just as bad as the other ... and they are getting worse ... expect a LOT of wasted time and tax payer money from now on.

Rember when going after a President (former or sitting) was RARE and FAR between??
Before Nixon, the only other President to face Impeachment was 100 years before ... and he kept his seat by ONE vote.
When Clinton was Impeached - no matter which side you stood on - it was 55 years later.  And actually, he allowed it to happen ... Nixon RESIGNED before any votes were held on Impeachment.

Wait ... how did we get HERE???
Taxes are NOT impeachment ... but then, having savvy tax lawyers isn't against the law either ...

I'm just saying -- if they wanted to "test the IRS audit system" then they have plenty of OTHER former Presidents they can look too ... Trump isn't the only one out there.
