Uber, the non taxi taxi service, has just released a new app which is supposed to get your children from point A to point B safely.
According to the report I saw on the television, one is the security measures is an extra PIN number sent to your child. This pin number is to confirm that the the person picking up your child is the proper person.
So they showed how this works...
child is waiting outside a building ...
A vehicle pulls up to the curb...
The child jumps into the back seat, as most kids would do...
The driver says" you have a Pin for me?" they drive off safely together.
Yep... don't see any problems with that at all... Accept EVERYTHING!
Let's look at it this way...
Your child is waiting curbside for their ride...
A vehicle pulls up and stops...
Your child jumps into the back seat, as most children will tend to do...
The driver says " do you have a pin for me?"
your child gives him the pin... Two words I've never applied to
your child and the driver are now driving away from the curb...
A while later...
The actual Uber finally shows up to pick up your child...
Who has now gone missing with an unknown person, and an unknown car, which you had no idea was going to be there!
Do you see the flaw?
Uber says they are putting their best drivers on these routes, ones with a minimum of five years of experience, ones that are extremely highly rated, and at any point in time either the child slash parent can ask to review the tape of the ride...
Of course none of this will be available should your child get into a wrong car
don't think it can't happen... there's already been at least one person who has been killed bye a person they thought was an actual Uber driver, who let the person into their car, then drove off, found a secluded area and killed them violently!
Things I would change...
That pin number... it should not go from child to driver.
It should be going from driver to the child!
The back seat should be locked to the outside, until the pin number is confirmed by the child... not" close enough", not just a few digits off, and definitely not from the child to the driver! Don't know how to swim
this is the Major flaw in this entire situation!!!
This whole situation is a pedophiles dream! Things are so backwards, that it's a disaster waiting to happen... The Raiders 4 CSI and law and order couldn't have written a better program; at least for ratings... this would be an absolute total nightmare for a parent!
While I understand that there is a need for this, I think that they didn't quite think this through... I think it should go through a few more "growing pains" before it gets turned loose onto the public... And our children!
