HERE WE GO AGAIN .... AND AGAIN .... AND AGAIN ....

So, for those who do not follow, nor listen to the news, here's what's going on in the state of Virginia (VA) .... well, actually, it all started in TX - but doesn't it always seem to start there? - in TX, they had decided to redraw their voting districts ... and they based the NEED to draw on (a) new Census data which shouwed they had actually gained people in 10 yrs, and (b)switch around a few things.

Well, then CA (California) decided they were going to do the same thing since TX's new map gave the Republicans something like 5 new seats in the US House of Representatives - and they did that .... I think the case is pending ... but Gov. Newsom came right out and SAID outloud that that was the REASON behind the redistricting ... didn't try to hide it or nothing.

Then in April, the state of NC did the same thing - but they created a couple "black majority" counties .... and that lawsuit went all the way to the US Supreme Court.  The Court decided (6-3) that it was illegal to use RACE and the single reason to create a new district.

Which makes sense, if race is the ONLY reason you couldn't get a job, buy a home, attend a college/school, or get from point A to point B (aka pre-1963) then you would say you were being decriminated against .... and the same applies here.  NC tried to hide behind the Johnson Voting Rights Act - which was supposed to kill "Jim Crow" laws, but that's not this story right now ....

So, VA - they voted in a NEW governor ... a woman .... a Socialistic Democrat (that's what she said, not my words) .... who had said during campainging that she had NO INTENTION to do any type of Redistricting - in fact, she called it a stupid idea - but then after she got voted into office ....
BOOM!!!! Guess what happened?  Yup - she pushed though Redistricting ... turned VA from a 6-5 Democrat state to a 9-1 Democratic state .... yeah, those numbers represtent the number of Districts which might vote for one party or another.  They have one county in 5 different Districts - yup 5, what the heck!  How do you do that?

The people in the state's Congress said "It goes against the states constitution" and "this is nuts" but she pushed it through anyways - and threw it on a voters ticket .... it went before the people...
Who admitted, they had no idea which way to vote on the question because it was written so convellutedly on the ticket .... if you voted "Yes" it meant you did NOT want the redistricting, if you voted "NO" it meant you did .... it was so bacwards ...
Or was that the other way around? ....
Any who - the vote came in and BOOM the redistricting PASSED .... hmm, interesting ... but the GOP/Republicans were there with a lawsuit at the ready, and took it to court.

The VA Supreme Court - not the US Supreme Court, very important to keep this in mind - said that it violated the State's Constitution So now, the Republicans are sitting back and going "Told You So".

So VA has been forced back into the original 6-5 districts ... for now - I suspect this likely will be fixed via state constitution here shortly ... but NOT before the Primaries for the mid-terms ... we will have to see.

Oops - that was a 6-5 Dem state, to a 9-1 Dem state .... sorry ... I think I fixed it though, and that makes more sense for the numbers (after all, why would the Repubs pass it?)

So - they added 4 more seats to the Dem side of the equation - simply because they could .... no "umrepresentated" people involved, no "movement of populations" involved ... simply a "numbers game".

Here's what the State Supreme Court said:

"This Violation irreparably undermines the integrety of the resulting referendum vote and renders it null and void"

Huh? but they added ....

" that means the maps, and effect, for the referendum must be used for the upcoming midterm elections."

The VA Attorney General says they are looking a EVERY legal pathway on the way forward

Geez, I would have thought you'd have done that BEFORE you "redistricted" but apparently, they did not .... better take a closer look at that law degree, governor.

This however is far from over ... CA and UT are still going to the Supreme courts ... and for the republican side of things - well, TX is settled, but there is still FL, MO, OH, and TN who are looking to redistrict before the mid-terms as well.

Why?

well, in FL they are saying it's because of all the new population which has moved into the state - they have settled in such a way that it throws the counts off in the districts.  Oh, we will have to have a different post on "counts", wait for that post ...

But - it's not so much to reshuffle the deck at home, as much as it is to reshuffle the deck in DC ... yup, you see, the districts pick who they will send to Washington - and while they are supposed to represent the people in their district back home, and do what's best for them ... instead it has become about doing what's best for the Party, and that just isn't right.

This is how you end up with rich congressional members while their people are living in squawler.  How they can so easily close the government down without any regard for those who are supposed to be getting a paycheck .... how they are so far from the people, that they have NO IDEA what the heck is going on!

But - hopefully - someday soon - this will be straightened out, they will take off their blinders and take a good look around. See what their foolishness has done to the country.
