So the question is are the top two issues that seem to come from the Liberitarian party killing them from ever becoming a loud enough voice in the Republican party? And lets face it--they are closer to the Republican party than the Democrats.
So what are the two main issues I'm talking about?
Legalizing marijuana....and getting rid of the IRS.
okay just face it people....in a society that is trying to get rid of cigarette smoking, you are never going to get pot legalized. And don't use the "well alcohol is legal" defense when someone points out the personality/mind altering effects of it---we aren't that far from reissuing prohibition in the country...no alcohol for pleasurable consumption.
There will always be a place for the IRS no matter what they say. We will always need the "bean counters" to figure out how much money the government has to work with. We will always need a force to make sure that companies are paying what they are supposed to. Don't believe me? Just look to your state's local sales tax....now if you have been living in a "normal" state (normal as in average for our nation...not normal as in excluding most of the west coast), you have seen year after year of raising sales taxes & fees--just a fancy word to get around the tax laws, in my opinion--now imagine that on a national level.
Here's an example:
In our state they passed a resolution to apply the state gas tax (yes, above and beyond the regular sales tax we have to pay an additional sales tax on the priviledge of owning a vehicle) solely for transportation. ALL the tax in the state--we are no small state and the way things were written the majority of the money will be going for the infrastructure on a transit system which most of the state will not be able to use. And at the state's whim they can shift this money to where they want it to go...right now its going to expand a system which is hurting for ridership in the hopes that throwing more good money after bad will make it better.
NOW imagine that on a National level. Take any Pork Belly topic....or better lets take it from the latest headline---Cloned Beef. Okay they want to clone beef cows/steers. Why? So they can better guarentee the quality of the meat.-.of course they fail to mention that quality is based more on how the meat is processed than the steer it comes from...it has less to do with genetics than it does feed, living conditions, slaughter method & aging/butchering....BUT it sounds nice. Nor do they mention that we are not looking at a shortage of beef stock now, nor in the near future. But there is a movement to fast-track the FDA approval process on this issue.
It will start with a "Beef Tax" to help farmers who are struggling making ends meet because they can't get their product to market or get the prices they need to make a living (not that they can do that now--save a farmer, buy your meat directly from the country butcher instead of the big name grocery stores...better quality, less cost, better controls during processing ... better service too. Okay, stepping off the soapbox now). Then it will be shifted to going to look into directly what is going on with the beef industury.
Now imagine the government stepping in and saying, with the same rhetoric they always use, that doing this will make meat more affordable to the poor (no it won't, it will be more expensive) and that for the "good" of the children not only should the government fast track it but pay for it. So the government would authorize certain facilities to raise this beef.
Okay so now our taxes are going for designer beef. The whole nation paying for designer farms in Oklahoma, California, Texas, and Wyoming (maybe even Montana) and chances are great that we will be talking one facility for each state. So the majority of the 50 states, including Hawaii & Alaska (notice no ranch there, they would have to import it) are paying for an economy ran by the government for a product that only a few will use--the higher price would keep it in the upper market, or if the price was kept lower than traditional beef only the poor would eat it because no one would risk the side-effects of cloned-meat.
So here you are. You get a tax which started off by helping the nation being re-routed to help only a few government ran ranches leaving the rest of the nations ranchers on their own. Putting the burden of their plight, now being caused by government interference, on the shoulders of the states who will now have to come up with a "beef tax" of their own. and the circle starts all over again.
Nope this one won't fly either. poeple want their money back in an orderly fashion.
So we "need" the IRS, love them or hate them.
Well that's two down....what does that leave them with?
