"Golf Channel suspended anchor Kelly Tilghman for two weeks on Wednesday for
saying last week that young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should
'lynch him in a back alley.' Tilghman was laughing during the exchange Friday with analyst Nick Faldo at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, and Woods' agent at IMG said he didn't think there was any ill intent.
But the comments became prevalent on news shows Wednesday, and the Rev. Al Sharpton joined the fray by demanding she be fired immediately. Golf Channel didn't know who would replace Tilghman in the booth this week at the Sony Open or next week at the B ob Hope Chrysler Classic."
Okay 1. Where the heck did Al Sharpton come into all this? Hey Al, can't you make any headlines of your own? Do you always have to jump on the first sign of some other person getting the head lines?
2. Bravo to Tiger! Besides the fact that I love the name (I wanted to be named Tiger as a teenager)....I think it is a very mature attitude he has that more likely than not, it was just a poor choice of words.
3. Who uses the word "lynch" anymore? It is so charged that no one would dare use it....I'm surprised that its not one of those words that get bleeped out. Of course they are also trying to do away with the Orange Confederate naval flag (it was never an actual confederate flag, it was one used as a signal flag during the battles....but never let facts get in the way of history).
4.Should she have been fired or suspended? Well if Tiger didn't think it was that bad--I think they probably could have gotten away with a public apology ASAP and left it at that. But once the media at large and Al Sharpton jumped on it, it became too large for that.
C'mon now....aren't we getting too senstive now?
words be words.
Sticks and stones, baby. Sticks and stones.
