NOAA's National Weather Service
First pay attention to where the weather in your area comes from each year...in the winter we tend to get our weather from the Rockies, but usually what happens in Alaska will come to us in 5 days.
Next, look at the location where that place is
Next, click on it to see what warnings there are for that area
Finally, prepare yourself for what's coming.
We are getting the weather front now that hit the CA area a few days back that caused massive snow falls (see previous post about killed actor)...only because we are in a current warming trend it will begin as rain.
We will then drop at least 20 degrees Fahrenheit in a couple of hours.
Man this reminds me of the stories I heard growing up of the Armistice Day Storm where the temp dropped 50 degrees with in only a few hours.
With this new storm we will get rain, which will freeze on contact as the frost is still in the ground, then it will switch to freezing rain, then onto snow by the time morning rush hour comes around. YIKES!
My guess is they will start spraying the corn-sugar-road-conditioner down tonight to help cut the slickness of the roads, but it will only be effective if the rain doesn't wash it away or the temps stay above a certain temperature.
I'm happy we got the radiator unfroze before this--what was once the coldest room in the house now has the best heat...makes me wonder about the other rooms. I've got one where it seems like the heat only goes so far along the piping and then stops.
