UPDATE: I miss read--I thought it said this boy was alive yet waiting for an organ transplant, not that he was being kept on life support so he could be an organ donor. And yes they are already laying the grounds for an 'deminished capacity' defense for the baby-sitter--based on 'depression'.
FOXNews.com - Baby Dies From Head Injury After Baby-Sitter Swings Him Around in Sleeping Bag
I went to this story thinking it was going to be some 12 or 13 yr old being left in charge---thought I was going to be able to say "see that is why you don't leave kids in charge of kids"....and it turns out the baby sitter was....
24 yrs old!!!!
Excuse me?
This was one of the things I have to say I hated about working at the daycare--the people there thought I was too paranoid about some of the ways I saw them play with the kids.
I didn't allow piggy back rides on the shoulders or backs of standing adults, none at all on other kids; in the spring even if it were 50degrees out in march i would make sure the kids had their jackets on (hey if it were 50 in July they would have those kids bundled...50 is 50); I didn't let the kids swing things around or throw even the pillows....
These same people would be saying that this was just an unfortunate accident.....
NOOOOOOO. Any reasonable adult should have been able to foresee the possible potential of injury in this case. HOW could this baby sister have put her charge in such danger!
If this was her kid....fine take the risk....but it wasn't!! You treat other people's kids...well, not just like your own.....but the way you would want someone to treat yours. That was always my approach. I treat them like they are made of glass--parents send them undinged, they should get them back as undinged as possible with still having fun.
Sure there are going to be the normal childhood bruised from running, bumping into furniture, maybe getting kicked during a ball game by mistake---but to put a kid (much less a baby) in a sleeping bag and then swinging it?
That is STUPIDITY!!! Stupidity beyond BELIEF!!!!
And the saddest part is....if this child should die (although by the sounds of it, its only surviving on life support)....this baby sitter will only get 5-10 yrs. for manslaughter.
I feel so bad for this family.
It is really gruesome.
