"“[Maxwell] expects an oil-induced financial crisis to start somewhere in the 2010 to 2015 timeframe,” Energytechstocks.com reported. “He said that, unlike the recession the U.S. appears to be in today, ‘This will not be six months of hell and then we come out of it.’ Rather, Maxwell expects this financial crisis to last at least 10 or 12 years, as the world goes through a prolonged period of price-induced rationing (eg, oil up to $300 a barrel and U.S. pump prices up to $15 a gallon).”"But then you never know -- who would have thought two years ago that we would be paying nearly $4/gallon???
So why don't they just make it possible for people to switch back to horse & buggy? Why not allow handsome cabs again? How about making all the government cars electric?
Okay that one I can guess at -- it is probably because they would be like computer batteries and suddenly decide not to charge (oops sorry, private issue).
I know that PETA would be really upset by the use of animals for transportation - never mind the fact that human kind has been doing it for eons ... but then they can simply walk.
The other issue is jobs. We have gotten so used to being able to jump in our cars and going anywhere we want that most of us live more than 5 miles from our place of employment. This would mean that walking, while more healthy, is likely to take place.
I'm wondering how long before the 3 day weekend becomes the norm. there are already a wave of working at home happening around many businesses, or those who have flexible schedules allowing their employees to work a couple of hours more per day and then giving them 1 day off every other week.
it will be interesting to see what becomes of all this.
Of course as I say this I am watching the plether of cars going down the highway by our house -- and wondering if perhaps someday it might be safe someday to cross it even without stoplights.
Actually while I'm thinking of it:
You want to save money for gas/electric charges?? make car dealerships have to turn their flood lights off at night!!!
When hubby and I first started dating you could see the milky way from the backyard ... now the neighboring city has allowed 7 car dealerships in a 2 mile area (actually it seems like less) and now you are lucky if you can see a single star at night from their 'light pollution'
Want to hear something eerie? try birds chirping at 3am because they think its daytime! It is sooo strange.
