"The prime minister received an apology from US President George W. Bush on the incident of shooting of a Koran by a US soldier,' Al-Iraqia television said.I never heard anything about this!
US military authorities in Iraq have apologised to the local community west of Baghdad where the soldier fired at the Koran on May 11 during shooting practice.
The soldier has since been expelled from his unit and sent home."
Yeah this is pretty bad. Just think how crazy we would be if it had been an Iraqi soldier and it was the Bible....or the American flag....or a copy of our Constitution.
Its just too bad this soldier went home -- after all, the last thing we want soldiers to think is 'if I shoot a book I can go home' .. what they need to think is 'if I mistreat these people I'm going to be a new world of hurt'
Although I have to wonder the circumstances surrounding the shooting -- was it on purpose? was it incidental?
I mean, most pulling of triggers is on purpose, every once in a while you might get an accidental shot off. Did he mean to hit the Koran, or was he aiming for something else and hit it by accident? I conclude that he did it on purpose because I could not imagine it happening anyother way, yet I know its possible -- but the story doesn't even touch that aspect of it.
