Its like a Mork & Mindy episode

McCain calls for building 45 new nuclear reactors:

"Sen. John McCain is calling for construction of 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030 and pledging $2 billion a year in federal funds to make clean coal a reality. He says the measures will reduce American dependence on foreign oil."

Great idea John -- only we have no idea what to do with the waste. Solve the waste issue first ... then look at nuke reactors.

Does anyone else remember the episode of 'Mork & Mindy' when Mork here's we have nuclear energy but no idea about the waste? I think his reaction was 'no race of beings would be stupid enough to use nuclear power before knowing how to handle the by-products'

HELLO??!!! Mork -- meet the human race. Yes we are stupid enough to do it...and ask for more!

Actually I understand that nuclear power is a way to go -- but really people...water power is so much more efficient. In fact we can use steam to produce electricity, steam with is produced by using the very electricity it makes.

it is self sustaining - and any form of water can get used, so we can use 'grey water' if we wanted to ... in fact I would think that even sea water could be used. And if they made a tight enough closed system for the steam then it would be able to virtually run forever on a single build up.

Actually if they plan it proper -- they could even make a sun driven steam engine...the sun would produce the initial heat to produce the steam that would turn the turbines and then at night a generator could kick in to keep things going thru the night.

Remember that before gas engines - most cars ran on steam. Only issues were (a)feeding the fire on the go and (b)freezing water in the winter. Well our technology can compensate for both of these issues now! Imagine being able to fill your tank from your tap .... being able to use the bathwater from last night ... being able to use urine in a pinch .... but they won't look into this.

We hear about bio-desiel .... solar energy ... hydrogen cyclinders .... etc. but you never, or rarely, hear of steam power!
