"President Hugo Chavez on Tuesday denied that he's the father of a man claiming to be his illegitimate son. It was the first time Chavez responded publicly to the claims of 31-year-old Salomon Fernandez, who says his mother became pregnant after an encounter with Chavez in the city of Maracay."Hey Hurricane Hugo --- why not just order DNA??? You can even get it done in the US if you don't have the facilities in your country (although I can't imagine that you don't).
Whoooo -- what is that smell? Oh, look Chavez has gone yellow.
So why do I think Chavez is afraid to acknowledge this guy? Same reason Bill Clinton denied having all those affairs -- everyone will come out of the woodwork after the first one is confirmed.
Plus - I'm not sure how it works in Venezuela ... but in some countries the line of heritage is given to the eldest son .... Chavez has 4 kids. 3 girls & 1 boy - the boy is from his first marriage.
Actually when you look at his track record (he had an affair during his first marriage with the same woman for 9 yrs) it seems a bit unusual that he would have a random affair -- but then who knows what happens when people get into politics.
He and his first wife split up after 18 yrs of marriage, but by the sounds of it, it had more to do with his failed coup of the country that he is now President of more than about the affair.

side note:
I have to tell you. I got a giggle out of reading about Chavez's dealings with the King of Spain ... the King of Spain. During some conference the King told Chavez to 'just shut up' .... LOL. Like anyone could do that. In retalization though (although Chavez denies hearing the remark) Chavez started railling on the Spanish oil companies. (um, remember that right now we buy an awful lot of our gas from Chavez).
