"A Detroit elementary school is asking for donations of toilet paper and light bulbs to keep their school functioning."MN schools have been asking for stuff for years now == every year we need to donate 3-4 boxes of kleenex per child, 2 reams of copy paper, boxes of ziploc bags, and now this last year our youngest daughters school has asked for $ donations to buy food for the class pets.
yet these same schools get money for renovating schools and then use it on redesigning the parking lot while window remain broken in the frames.
they complain about how much food the kids pitch out but then they only allow them 1/2 hr to get to the cafeteria, get thru the lines with 200 other kids, eat, and still have time for recess ... give them more time to eat and you won't have so much food waste.
i think its time to start looking at some of the things they do and what things can be either cut or substituted with free things .... although if they are like school in MN - they are forced by the state to purchase approved curiculums in order to meet the standards (not just the instructional guides, but our state actually has tubs/kits that must be purchased and used during the year in order to qualify for state funding).
