"Eric Holder, sworn in Tuesday as attorney general, promised a clean break with the past policies of the Bush administration, saying the Justice Department will be 'no place for political favoritism.'"The more there is one step foward in racial equalities, the more steps back there is as well.
It seems like when it comes to appointees or elected officials, the first thing that gets noticed is their color or their gender --- not whether they are qualified for the position or not .... and they call this 'progress'??
Progress will be when a person gets looked at solely based on their abilities, not which pigeon-hole they fit into.
Case in point - when the IL senator tried to take his seat ... it wasn't reported so much that he wasn't getting the seat because of the Blago fiasco, it was reported that either the only reason he got the position - or I've even read the only reason he was being kept from taking the seat - was because of his race.
Would you rather get a job because you earned it or because you met some federal minority quota??
Just as race/gender should not be allowed to keep you out of a position, so should neither be used as a reason to hire you.
Nor should either be the main reason behind a news story about anyone ... not even Obama.
