Golden Child

SPIN METER: Saving federal money the easy way - Yahoo! Finance:
"The thrifty measures Obama ordered for federal agencies are the equivalent of asking a family that spends $60,000 in a year to save $6."
But people will still look at it and go "but he's saving $100 million" .... but its a spit in the bucket.

It will be more interesting to see how the fact that the banks & businesses turning down the stimulus money is going to effect the budget and if he will take or be given credit for it.

The other one that gets me is the 'tax cuts' for the middle class ... well they aren't really - I saw a couple of different weekend political shows on network tv go over this ...

he will be letting the tax cuts for the middle class put in by Bush to expire ... so your kids will save you less now (so much for being for the family) .... but even more interesting is the way in which they figure you will get the 'cut' ...

from what I understand they will be taxing people and then you have to know where to find the deductions to take them if you earn less than $250,000 - you do NOT get them automatically ... nor are they really cuts, since techinically you wouldn't be charged with them anyways.

it reminds me of the local state university who submits a budget to the legislature and then moans they they have had a budget cut when in reality they haven't recieved LESS money than before -- they simply didn't get the money they WANTED, so they can't spend it on those special programs ... or the electic fencing around the University President's home -- oops sorry, that's an old scandal from when I was in college.

None the less here is a great comparison of where that money could come from:

For all the trumpeting, the effort raised questions about why Obama set the bar so low, considering that $100 million amounts to:
--Less than one-quarter of the budget increase that Congress awarded to itself. {ginger says: let's remember it was a democrat run congress}
--4 percent of the military aid the United States sends to Israel.
--Less than half the cost of one F-22 fighter plane.
--7 percent of the federal subsidy for the money-losing Amtrak passenger rail system.
--1/10,000th of the government's operating budgets for Cabinet agencies, excluding the Iraq and Afghan wars and the stimulus bill.

oh ... yeah ... that will make a difference ... NOT .... well I suppose every little bit will help.
