Cost of an Education

I just saw on tv that a public college education in GA will be going up 77% ... WOW ... to say the least. UCLA just had a big protest out there over a 32% tuition hike (about $600/semester), it is going up yet again there as well.

but don't think that they are the only state that is thinking of raising tuition to meet budget cuts ... there is a list of 33 states total who wanted money from their states and when they didn't get what they wanted decided to raise tuition instead of making cuts or keeping programs at the current levels.

States:
HI
WA
OR
ID
NV (which is also closing their agriculture college)
UT
AZ
MT
WY
CO
NM
SD
NE
KS
OK
MN
IA
MO
LA
WI
MI
IN
KY
TN
AL
FL
OH
GA
PA
WV
VA
ME
NH
VT
CT
NJ
RI
(it was hard to read those little tiny ancronyms on a digital tv, they pixilated)

Where the heck are these kids supposed to get tuition??? I mean my son paid just under 2000/semester ... add 77% to that ... and he would have to come up with nearly $3500/semester ...

what college kid can come up with that unless they take out huge student loans ... or do something absolutely illegal???

I'm telling you ... they can't ..

which will mean less kids enrolling in college....

which means the colleges won't have the student body to pay the tuition...

which means budget short-falls ....

which means hiking the tuition ....

which will start the whole nasty mess again ....

HOW are these universities going to get out of this downward spiral?

Soon it will be only the extremely wealthy and those lucky enough to get scholarships who will be able to get an education past 12th grade.

what a pain in the butt ....

did I mention that the universities are the highest 'liberal' institutions you will find? hmmm, so the same places that claim that everyone should be able to get an education, are the ones who are going to make it nearly impossible for anyone to get one.
