Cost of an Education

Okay - so our old school district (before the move) has just approved their new budget for the 2010-2011 school year .... $623.8 Million ....

this is still a 'shortfall' of $27.2 Million for what they need ... so here's their totally stupid plan:

let 118 teachers go, and cut one Principal.

I crunched the math .... if was assume that the principal involved earns as much as those teachers, then each of them will have earned approximately $228,000/yr! Look the average wage of a teacher in the state is $45,000 - so there is no way that they should have to cut that many teachers!

What they should be doing is cutting some of these damn principals and fill the positions with some of the teachers at a lower wage -- and then keep their damn butts in the schools!

You ever try to get a hold of your teacher's principal during the day? heck you are lucky if you can get a hold of one of the 4 'associate principals' (they aren't vice-principals anymore I guess ... unless this is just a fancy term for the principals sectary)

They did free up $750,000 from the general fund by only offering music instruction (learning to play an instrument) before/after school or on Saturdays .... what? they're music departments actually teach you to play? hell, our district makes you send the kids to private instruction if they want to learn an instrument!

Or you poor babies! NOT

We pulled our kids out there because their school of 'Academic Excellence", which used to be have a MST focus and top ranked at the time we sent our son there, was put on Academic Probation within one year of the switch!

They forgot that part of that Excellence was supposed to be the basics and that kindergarteners needed to learn more than just 'apple' before the end of the year.
