Although he does rake the Republicans over the coals too for not wanting to compromise the way he wished they would.
Here are three of the tax cuts that he says will be preserved:
- tax breaks for children & paying college tuition
- small businesses will get a tax cut
- payroll taxes will be cut in 2011 (should add about $1000/mo. in take-home pay per family)
The Repubs on the other side of the coin weren't going to budge knowing that if the tax cuts expired that the dems would be blamed for not signing the bill ... they were in a win-win situation.
This extension is only for 2 years - but that will be JUST after the election again ... so there will be more talk of extending them during the race, I'm sure.
But it is interesting to hear Obama say "Stop playing games" to both parties equally -- okay, maybe not equally, he is still saying everything is the Repubs fault for not getting to it earlier ... never mind the fact that the Dems have been in charged and dragged their feet on it.
I am wondering if there is someplace that has a 'before' and 'after' photo of Obama yet ... he is looking pretty haggard right now. Usually they save those comparisons for when a president is leaving ... but he looks like he has been thru the ringer! Ether that or he is cutting his hair so short that its looking grayer & he isn't shaving quite as deeply (you could really see where his moustache comes in).
