So just caught an interview on FNC - I don't usually catch them in the middle of the day but it's been raining all day and I actually got some decent sleep last night ... ANYWAYS, I digress ...
I caught this story about vaping and what the White House is planning on doing about it ...
So, this guy - Gregory Conley (President of the American Vaping Association) - ok, my 23 year old son looks older than this guy, of course my son has grown a beard and put on a bit of weight this summer eating my cooking again - and the chip this guy carried on his shoulder would have made Robert Conrad stop to think! ... Mr. Conley says that prohibition never works ...
Well that can't be right - 33 states in the Union permit localized Prohibition if they wish - some by county others buy city, but the majority is either!! Below you will find a map from Wikipedia ... the Blue colored states are "wet" that is they do not have prohibition going on; the Red spots are COUNTIES within a state which ENFORCES prohibition, and the Yellow areas when there is at least 1 city which ENFORCES prohibition ...
So, YES prohibition DOES work ... it's simply not chosen by a lot of people because either (a)they feel it's unconstitutional or (b)they just didn't vote when the opportunity was presented.
Mr. Conley said he would support raising the MINIMUM age limit to 21 years old
He also felt that the imposed move to ban FLAVORED vaporing cartirdges would only hurt the 1.7 million Americans trying to quit smoking ... his belief is that if you are trying to quit smoking the last thing you want is a product which tastes like tobacco ...
I used to smoke - quit cold turkey when I was pregnant with my first child - and I gotta tell you ... a product which tasted like my menthol cigarettes would have been great!!!! I would rather have had that then the cigarettes, to telling the truth ... but that's just me. I smoked menthol because after I had the flu one year, Maraboro's tasted very much like SOAP, yuk!
The anti-vaporing crowd say the flavored "juice" nis aimed at children ... these are the same people who went after Joe Camel & the Bud-Wise-Er frogs as gimmicks to "hook" kids too -- frankly speaking, I think smoking & drinking in the HOMES by the PARENTS likely did more to influence the kids than any stupid cartoon which kids only saw twice a year, maybe.
Harris Faulkner - former local news anchor, now a main player on Fox News (whoop whoop) - tried her best to keep politics out of the issue -- which makes sense since people are getting really sick and there have been some deaths reported ...
Conley said the illnesses & deaths were not caused by the legal products but rather by bootlegged vaping liquid and/or cartridges which have been doctored to contact THC, the chemical which gets people high in marijuana ... while this appears to be true ... the guy went off the rails
The CDC & FDA have been expressing concerns over vaping since it first started ... the latest illnesses have just pushed them a bit too far. The recommendation is to have ONLY cigarette flavored vaping fluid sold for now, then manufacturers/vaping retailers re-apply for liscenses starting in May 2020 ...
This guy started saying it was all Trumps fault, that Obama had been out of office too long now, so it's all on Trump!! But he never got around to what exactly he was blaming Trump for ...
Here's my question/thought ...
In Minnesota, we got rid of cigarette machines so kids couldn't buy without ID .... now they say no cigarettes except in tobacco stores or gas stations/convienience stores
Why can't they do this with vaping stuff? Only for sale at a brick & mortor shop, as well as having to be over 21 year sale old??
Makes sense to me
Then they just need to go after the guys buying for kids then
