There is a battle going on in downtown Minneapolis ... the battle between making barely a living or moving out.
Downtown has had it bouts of crime, even during the 1980s you didn't go there alone without fear of being mugged.
But now it's even worse! Now they attack in PACKS - zombie style - and they are doing it in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!
Today our local news station had the story of one business owner (her photo is below) who has been in the same location and has been BEATEN at least 4 times ... once so bad they broke her jaw.
Her store is located across the street from the city COURT HOUSE, she's just up the street from the CITY JAIL, and there's even a POLICE STATION a haf a city block away.
The sports teams who have their stadiums in downtown Minneapolis are now being joined by BUSINESSES in downtown calling on the CITY COUNCIL to hire more police ...
But not just the 17 that Mayor Fry has agreed too, but the 500 that the head of Minneapolis police has said is NEEDED to meet the c
Demands within the city -- right now police show up at a 911 call just to apologize and run off to yet another 911 call ... there simply are not enough officers to do much else than take statements & file reports.
People who work downtown are either leaving earlier in the day, or they are quitting their jobs because they fear being beaten up! Sometimes not even for money ... sometimes it's just because they're there ...
If Minneapolis (and St. Paul for that matter) don't get this under control soon, it will become an avalanche of crime -- in fact, the only crime shown to be dropping in Minneapolis is rape - but that's likely because they simply are not being reported since the police can't really do anything ...
This has NOTHING to do with immigrants, this has NOTHING to do with unemployment (intact they are begging for workers all over downtown Mpls), it has NOTHING to do with needing money ... it has to do with LAWLESSNESS
There is still HOPE though ... but not for long if the council doesn't fix this and put crap like "bike routes" on hold!!!
