UPDATE:
Sounds like this case took place in 2017 - so well before the whole quote shut down UN quote
=======================
so, my kids learned at a Young age that I enjoy watching Judge Judy ... It has been shown from 4-4:30 pm for - well - forever. Supper was in the oven before then and served AFTER - it was done at 5pm. Then we got a TV in the kitchen, we could watch while we ate - a good civics lesson, if you ask me - my oldest thought she was a bully, especially as he got older, said she was "mean just for the sake of being mean"
And I can see his point ... She often says that she's having 'fun' while belittling someone, she seems to side with temmamts more than landlords, and favors smaller dogs over bigger ones.
BUT I was watching season 22 episode 124 ... Homeland Security Homeschooling?! ... at least that was the title my cable service gave it ... Anyhow, in this case, she seemed to go above and beyond the opinionated Ness that I have seen in her before
The issue?
HOMESCHOOLING
I understand that the show is taped in California... That she grew up in New York State... in fact she grew up in New York City, if I remember correctly... And she wound up moving down to Florida, when it was still a very liberal state... But the home schooling option, for the lack of a better word, seems to be something fairly new for her to understand.
Now before I continue on, we need to talk about the teachers union in California... It is extremely strong! Like to the point where even the conservatives in this state seem to bow down to them... I'm surprised that they even allow home schooling in the state.
I do not know what the laws are pertaining to home schooling in the state where these people are from, but I do know that in my personal state you just have to be the parent of the child that you're teaching in order to be able to homeschool them... there are plenty of sources online and learning programs that you can use to teach your child if you so wish to.
I know this, because when my kids were in their old school district, I had actually contemplated pulling my daughter out of the school district and teaching her at home... because she just wasn't being taught dash there was a time when she had three to four teachers in a single year dash it was a complete toss away year! And the school system saw absolutely nothing wrong with it, except for her grades at the end of the year. And then the school wanted to do something really stupid in her last year in their district, they wanted to pair her in 3.5 grade... it was for the children who were doing well enough to get out of third grade, but not good enough to get into 4th grade... My opinion was either hold her back or send her forward don't put her in limbo dash their opinion was that this would be less traumatic on the child... I told them I had a degree in child psychology and I saw this as pure hokum ... But then we switched school districts, and we became aware of exactly what they were hiding.
Our daughter was beginning 4th grade, with second grade math skills and a 0.5 grade reading level! She had absolutely no computer skills at all, which is amazing considering that she was supposed to be getting computer training twice a week and computer learning dash that is doing work actually on the computer dash three times a week, equaling five days a week of computer work... In less than a year, one school year to be precise, she went from a second grade math level to a 4th grade math level dash she went from a 0.5 grade reading level to a 3.5 grade reading level!
So I've seen both sides of the coin when it comes to educating your children... I've seen the good and bad of both sides ... But then with some of the police calls I've been hearing on the police scanners lately, I'm leaning back towards home schooling again... I think it's safer for the kids, you can control the their education, you can control what they're being taught, and you can make sure that they're not being bullied or attacked in the hallways... they will have plenty of time for "socialization" as they grow up. The first thing you have to do is teach them how to interact with people, that doesn't make them scream in someone's face, simply because they have a different opinion.
Anyways... my daughter's right I go off into these spirals when it comes to my stories... Judge Judy is of the opinion that unless you have a degree in education, you should not be allowed to teach your children at home.
Well I can understand where she's coming from, I think that she has been quote indoctrinated UN quote by the teachers unions out in California
also since this was season 22... I don't know how long ago that this actually took place, it may have been dash and actually probably was dash before the pandemic closed all the schools comma and other places but anyway you look at it... She is very biased against homeschooling!
And because of this... I think it would be very hard to nominate Judge Judy for the Supreme Court.
It's OK to have opinions, but not prejudices if you're going to be sitting on the Supreme Court... Not that I think that Judge Judy would actually ever get on the Supreme Court, but it's been something that's been bantered around for quite a while
usually by people educated in the public school system
... I'm just saying
