This question has come home to roost ....
These days, businesses are used to employees who oly work for 5 yers and then leave ... they don't have to prepare for those who stay and help to make the company what it is ....
Employees expect to get a lot from their employer, but they don't want to work overtime, they don't want to be on call on the weekends, they don't even take calls if they are on vacations. But then they don't stay for more than 5 years. they expect to be able to tell off their boss with horrid language, and keep their jobs, even.
We were raised in a different time ... and its hard to believe how much things have changed.
When hubby began working at his job, they rewarded people for the time they worked there. every 5 years they got something special ... at one point hubby got a ring with the company's crest on it - every five years after that they added a diamond chip to the ring as well.
Dduring the other yers (not the 5th years) he was given a choice of gifts ... he got highball glasses, on-th-rock glasses with the logo on there .... he's gotten itools ... etc.
This year is is 35th anniversary ... they don't have anyone else there for that long and that includes the CEO of the company ... but they have not asked iim for his ring .... they haven't even asked him what he'd like for his annniversary ....
he feels so ... forgotten.
What did the copany give him this year? At his annual review, he got a "prepare for retirement" speech ... but they weren't pushing him out, they said.
I think that after that may yers -- someone should take him out for dinner.
Buy him a drink ... SOMETHING ....
So the question remains ....k
What is the price of Loyalty these days?
Is it worth anything in the work 0lace anymore?
I'm guessing not.
Oh my hubbyt?
Yes he takes calls on the weekends, works during vacation if they need him to, and will answer the phone after hours.
He gives 150% for a company which likely would have curled up and died yers ago if it hadn't been for HIS Loyalty to theym.
I love him with all my hert.
