Join is a relative term, I guess ... he basically stod there with a bull horn and shouted a bunch of rhetoric in support, but you could hear he just didn't really understand all that much.
ither way -- it looks as if he has taken sides ... in a matter in which HE may have to get involved the same way that President Reagan had to get involved with the Air Traffic Controllers strike in the 1980s.
Difference is -- Reagan didn't show any favoratism before hand ... his only concern, it seemed, was to get the country moving again. Remember, very much like the C-19 shutdown, EVERYTHING was coming to a stop becuase so much was being sent by air - it wasn't just people.
He tagged them as essential Federal employees - which make it illegal for them to strike - and fired those who refused to work ... but he LISTENED to what they had to say, and FIXED the issues.
Their issues were SAFETY related for the most part, too many planes/not enough people ... if a pilot didn't want to listen to what they were being told, the Controller was the one who got in trouble the majority of tge time.
The UAW wants shorter work weeks, why? Well who wouldn't want that ... but they want pay for 5 days of work .... excuse me? So does that mean they want 40 hours pay for only 32 hours work? How is that supposed to work? Maybe 40 hours pay for 40 hours work .... I can see them doing 10 hour days.
They want their benefits back ... like health insurance? life insurance? sick pay? what? or are you talking Pension plans which have been known to KILL companies ? I honestly don't knoe what they are talking about here.
The one thing I am NOT hearing about ... and I can't believe it has't come up yet ...
What will happen to the jobs AFTER Biden's Green Initotive starts??
My understanding is that once gas fueled engines are no longer the norm, no longer being made on a massive scale, only ONE THIRD of the workers will be needed!!!
Especially since most of the remaining jobs will be done at the battery plants in such places as China, India, Pakistan ...
What then??
Questions which NO ONE has asked yet ... or mayb they are afraid to ask them.
