Okay -today (Feb 6, 2024) was an interesting day in the legislature.
In the Senate -
The Border Bill got voted down ... only 2 Republicans voted for it, and at least 3 Democrats voted against it.
(and yes, I was correct, the reason Padilla voted against it was because it didn't have anything for the "Dreamers")
In the House -
Impeachment Charges against Sec. MMayorkas did not pass, its actually not that it was voted down - it simply tied, and according to House rules a tie is not passed.
They also failed at passing a Stand Alone Resolution for Aid To Israel ... the President had already said if this bill/resolution had in fact passed, he would in turn VETO it ... it would have needed 2/3 majority to pass - which would have meant a good chunk of Democrats would have to vote with them ... they did not.
These were the big things tonight.
I am kind of interested in WHY the Democrats were so willing to vote to fund Irael in the Border Bill but not in a Stand Alone bill.
Could it be because it would be too easy to see that Israel was only going to get a fraction of the amount that Ukraine was?
Or perhaps, the Democrats don't support Israel/Jewish people as much as they would like them to believe.
But now - during an ELECTION YEAR - everyone has gone ON RECORD with where they stand ...
BTW -- abut the Mayorkas vote ... one of the people who voted "NO" later changed their vote, while it does not change the result ... it will keep the issue able to be called again in the futer.
Possibly when there are more Republicans in the House to vote.
435 Representatives are split into 222 Republicans, and 212 are Democratic, and one seat is currently "Open" ... I believe there is a special election coming up soon fill it.
