REMEMBER THE TIME

 Remember the Jon Benet Ramsey case?

If you don'tt, that's okay ... she was killed in 1997

She was only 6 years old ... and a beauty pagent contestant ... like that show on "Lifetime" channel (I hink - I never watched it) .... but at 6 years of age this kid was made up to look very much older than she was.

These things have totally lost the jest of what they were supposed to be able.

But ... to go on ... 

It happened in Boulder, CO .... the supposed place of "Mork and Mindy" (you may not remember that TV show, but it was a break-out for Robin Williams)

They didn't have a ton of crime there ... the police department didn't do much other than domestic calls, speeding/parking tickets, and the occasional theft.

Now suddenly, they had a MAJOR case on their hands.

The family woke up the day after Christmas, couldn't find Jon Benet (that's her intire first name) .... but they did say they found a ransom note....

The police which showed up had no experience, nor training for dealing with such a crime scene.

And remember - at this point, they thought it might be a kidna[[ing case, not a murder.

It sounds as if they DID NOT make members in the house leave the area
It sounds as if they DID NOT cover their shoes with booties while they walked through the house
It sounds as if they DID NOT reframe from touching objects in the house
It sounds as if they DID NOT keep the family members in a specific area within the home while waiting to see what was going to happen next.

In fact, Jon Benet's father was allowed to search around the house while waiting ...

He was the one who found the body of Jon Benet ... and then he TAMPERED with her and evidence before an officer was informed

He openly admitted that he removed the gag she had on her, and he TRIED to remove the rope used to tie her wrists together ....

The Boulder Police began to believe that a FAMILY MEMBER(S) were involved ...

At first reports claimed it was her mother, because Jon Benet didn't win the last pagent she was in ... or she wanted the girl to do a routine that she couldn't do ... etc, etc.

Then there was a report of blood and "other matter" in the girls underwear ...

This led to stories throwing blame on her uncle, her father .... even her 20 year old brother ...
But nothing seemed to pan out.

On YouTube this morning, I just found a report from "60 Minutes Australia" that 2 weeks after they had found the little girl - DNA had cleared every single family member from the matter in her undies.

They went over several other bits of proof which had been ignored ... and the fact that the girl was fund in a cabinet which the police had failed to check -- remember, they thought they were dealing with a kidnapping, I'm thinking they were likely looking for signs of how the person got in - but basically, they bungled the job.

They didn't know what they were doing.

But the new team, the "Dead Case" team .... knows what they are doing now.  And it sounds as if they think this guy is still alive.

The DNA found in the gotchas and under her fingernails -- so she fought -- gave a full profile, at least that which was available at the time ... and they know it was a male.

BUT I'M WONDERING .... there's a website where people VOLUNTARILY submit their DNA looking for relatives ...

Couldn't they compare the DNA they have with those on that sight?

It isn't likely that they will find the actually person, but likely they may find someone related to them .... maybe a sibling, a cousin, something ....

But this bit of evidence getting out there now COMPLETELY CLEARS the family from being involved.

I really can't blame the police at the time thouigh -- they believed what they were told, and treated it as a kidnapping, to the best as they knew what to do from their training ... 

And while its easy to look back with today's eyes and think "why didn't you know what to do??"
You have to remember that at the time, most police forces did NOT require much more than a high school deploma, and 12 weeks at the Police Academy ...

In fact ... if you can, watch the movie "Police Academy", take out most of the comedy, and you've pretty much got what the training was.

So .... if you are the person who did this crime ....

THEY WILL FIND YOU

The best thing you can do ... is TURN YOURSELF IN ... give this family some peace.
