Okay I was very good this weekend (kind of) and didn't buy a single bit of yarn from http://HancockFabrics.com . I was however very naughty when it came to material, though. I had a 40% off coupon which I just had to use on some Liquid Lame in Silver for a tinman outfit for my youngest son. Actually its kind of funny about Halloween....wait that's getting off topic again.
I also got some reflective ribbon in yellow and orange (a yard of each for dog collars), some vinyl to recover the outdoor chairs for the bistrol set I got from my mother (I got clear and lady bug covered so my choices are wide open), some tablecloth vinyl so I won't have to do so much scrubbing of the table after the kids get done eating (who says they get neater with age?), some fleece for memory blanks for christmas...okay a LOT of fleece, but it all only added up to 6 1/2 yds for 4 kids, and a Green Bay Packers [gag, gag] panel for one of the traitors in the family, ssssss; two pair of Takumi bamboo needles...one circ, 1pr. flexi...and a yarn applicator foot from Singer, I figure if the kids are going to do a Wizard of Oz theme for the year someone has got to be the lion (Hubby, maybe? I want to be either the witch or a flying monkey)
I wrote to Janome, the company who was supposed to tbe the manufacturer of the Harmony 8700 from Hancock to see if this foot would work , but Janome wrote back to say that they were aware that a Japanese manufacturer was making the old MC5300 and selling them to Hancock under the Janome name (which tells me, someone's in trouble) but that they do not recommend Singer feet for the Janome machines, just the Janome feet. When I asked if there was a specific reason (thinking maybe I'd get some reply like...the hole doesn't line up, or the shafts are different sizes or the pins are different sizes...what I got back was that they didn't have enough information on the Singer brand of feet to determine whether they would be a problem so they only recommend Janome feet.
WHAT??? Not enough info? They have got to be kidding me. Singer has been around for, what a hundred years if not more, and they can't get info on the product line?? What kind of Bull Treet is that? Of course you can get the info, you can get the feet and do tests can't you? What, they don't do product testing on their machines, is that what they are telling me? Basically what they said was if I use the Singer foot and something goes wrong I'm on my own, they won't cover any damage....not that they would anyways since they came out with a new $4000 machine which they are pushing instead and would love for me to have to buy!
Its a good thing that I finally got my old Kenmore working....my feed-dogs weren't grabbing, somehow they got disengaged...it will use any, ANY, Singer foot. The only thing I have to worry about is the shank of the machine...I know its not a slant shank, and since the foot is a snap-on it should work okay....it said short shank but I can't see that being a real problem with a snap-on, but we will see.
Oh and hubby had me order 10 yards, yup 10 yards, of black tinted vinyl for doing the windows. It is made to cling so we won't have to worry about adhesives at all. We will have to see how it works...I'm just hoping it will keep Addy from seeig reflections in the glass doors at night...nothing quite like walking into the room and being greeted by a rousing round of "who's walking in my yard" from a 100lb puppy (well really I need to weigh her, but she was 56obs at 5 months...and she's 8 months now...wow she's getting old!)
