"NEW YORK (AP) - An explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above 'the crossroads of the world.'I was afraid this was going to happen...my guess is that when they do find these people they will be able to trace everything back to the Berkeley case...where the protestors won their case to picket and block, virtually shutting down, the recruiting office there!
Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m., shattering the station's glass entryway. No one was injured.
'If it is something that's directed toward American troops than it's something that's taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate,' said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan."
If it turns out that this has anything to do with the Pink people I think their leaders should be locked up if they don't give up the people who actually did this--and the group should be labelled.....
Wait....
Wait...
I'm getting a head of myself here....
This is the same thing that happened with the Oaklahoma City bombing.....
everyone jumped to the conclusion that it was foreign based when it was domestic instead.
I shouldn't do this....I can't call for the arrests in CA until they are tied in.
But I still say the Berkeley case fuelled this attack.
Witnesses staying at a Marriott hotel four blocks away said they could feel the building shake with the blast.
"I was up on the 44th floor and I could feel it. It was a big bang," said Darla Peck, 25, of Portland, Oregon.
"It shook the building. I thought it could have been thunder, but I looked down and there was a massive plume of smoke so I knew it was an explosion," said Terry Leighton, 48, of London, who was staying on the 21st floor of the Marriott.
Imagine how scary this had to be for the people of NY who had been thru the 9/11 kamakazee attacks of the WTCs....
Imagine how massive it must have been to shake the 44th floor of a building~~It was more than a minor device! Probably poorly made and the only thing that is keeping these people from having committed murder is the dumb luck that no one was walking by [of course I dont know who would be out at 3:30-4:00 in the morning, but it is NY]
The recruiting station, located on a traffic island surrounded by Broadway theaters and chain restaurants, has occasionally been the site of anti-war demonstrations, ranging from silent vigils to loud rallies...
...The recruiting station was renovated in 1999 to better fit into the flashy ambiance of Times Square, using neon tubing to give the glass and steel office a patriotic American flag motif. For a half century, the station was the armed forces' busiest recruiting center. It has set national records for enlistment, averaging about 10,000 volunteers a year.
The story also reports of some protesters who were arrested on disorderly conduct and then acquitted...because they were grannies in there 70's & 80's....what old people don't commit crimes? It would have just been a misdermeanor--they should have let it stand.
But it sounds like there's been a lot of trouble in NY lately--someone want to tell me again how Bush's idea of catching these people is a bad thing?? Catch them by any means possible....before they kill someone!
Police said it was too early to say if the blast may have been related to two other minor explosions in the city.yeah I would say they sound like they have very simular M.O. so they are probably connected. AND I would also conclude that since it is only happening once a year or so that whoever is doing it is not a native NYer...someone coming into the city on vacation.
In October, two small explosive devices were tossed over a fence at the Mexican consulate, shattering three windows but causing no injuries. No threats had been made against the consulate, and no one took responsibility for the explosion, police said.
At the time, police said they were investigating whether it was connected to a similar incident at the British consulate on May 5, 2005.
In that incident, the explosions took place in the early morning hours, when Britons were going to the polls in an election that returned Prime Minister Tony Blair to power.
In both cases, the instruments were fake grenades sometimes sold as novelty items. They were packed with black power and detonated with fuses, but incapable of causing serious harm, police said.
And as far as being 'incapable' of causing harm---they obviously haven't had enough experience with firecrackers! Put a bunch of them under a metal coffee can and light the string and see what happens---BOOOMMM!!!! if you are lucky the can will stay intact and fly up into the air....if your NOT lucky, it will burst and become flying shrapnel.
Don't talk to me about 'incapable'.....there's no such thing.
