"The state Health Department is threatening to bring the curtain down on these sham productions. But for now, it's on with the show. Why the heck should the Health Dept care? These people are going to the bars on their own...the waitresses are working there on their own accord (we don't have indentured servents)...no one is being taken in there kicking and screaming.
At The Rock, a hard-rock and heavy-metal bar in suburban St. Paul, the 'actors' during 'theater night' do little more than sit around, drink, smoke and listen to the earsplitting music.
'They're playing themselves before Oct. 1. You know, before there was a smoking ban,' owner Brian Bauman explained. Shaping the words in the air with his hands, like a producer envisioning the marquee, he said: 'We call the production, `Before the Ban!''"
I still say the state missed a great opportunity to raise money.
Imagine if you had the choice if you wanted to be smoking or not....if you didn't want to be a smoking business (bar, restraunt, etc.) then you didn't have to do anything. BUt if you did, they could make you buy a 'smoking' license the same way as they make you buy a 'liquor' license if you are going to sell booze.
And they have certain regulations you have to follow that pertain to drinking/selling liquor as well....they could do the same thing with the bars.
They are idiots. Just think--we wouldn't have a deficit anymore. in fact I'd bet they would have a surplus. They could even regulate what kind of venting/filter system the business could use--like they already do for the food industry in the state.
Nope they totally missed the ball on this one---didn't even get any wood.
It was the citizen that got the wood.
Told you not to bend over for the soap.
