Magnitude 6.7 - NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN
Despite what you may read on drudgereport.com according to the USGS (the people who give the quakes their magnitudes) this was not a 7.1 but only a 6.7
To most people it doesn't sound like a big difference ... but in the earthquake world it is, because the force behind the magnitudes goes up expotentially.
Most people think it multiplys in strength (10, 20, 30, 40 figuratively)
but in reality its more like (10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, 1000000 figuratively)
Now they have had at least 4 quakes with in the last hour ... all 5.1 or above.

5.4 at 16:12 UTC
5.9 at 16:16 UTC
