Hey look a non-partisan issue -- I must be branching out!
Gay marriage ban leading - Los Angeles Times: "'I think the voters were thinking, well, if it makes them happy, why shouldn't we let gay couples get married. And I think we made them realize that there are broader implications to society and particularly the children when you make that fundamental change that's at the core of how society is organized, which is marriage,' he said." Lets get this straight shall we? Let them marry - let them adopt kids - BUT take away this 'civil union' crap then.
the Civil Union legislation was purposely made to give gay couples some of the same rights as married couples in the most major instances where normally it would take a 'spouse' was necessary. Health issues, child custody issues, legal right issues, property ownership, palimony, etc.
The laws were written vague enough to where in several areas it wound up incl. hetro-couples living together as well (like my state) ... BUT ...
If gay marriage passes then they MUST nullify the Civil Unions because the cause behind the law is no longer necessary ... let them have the right to marry and divorce under the law.
